Does this card, when connected in a PCie slot require a cable from one of the two sockets at the rear to the motherboard or the PSU? If it does then which socket is used, which cable and where to? Thanks guys.

As "antspants" already posted, the card needs power from a 4 pin Molex connector. (The sort used for hard drives before SATA became common.)

I believe that the other connector at the rear of the card is a 19 pin USB 3.0 port, similar to one that may be on your motherboard. (Provides 2 USB 3.0 connections. I've only ever used one for a pair of front panel USB ports, built into the PC case.)

I’m not 100% certain that the USB-3 header is needed. Nothing will happen if you don’t use it, it’s either going to work without it, or not.
If there are issues then use one. It’s been a while since I have so memory vague. @Scannerman may have a clue.

But I think the main requirement is the power, problems if you don’t connect it.

The extra cable is a power cable only. The card will work without it, but you won't have the rated USB3 power capability from all the ports without the extra cable.
