Hi.
I recently bought a new HP laptop with Windows 11 to replace my about 8-year-old Lenovo that can't officially be upgraded from Windows 10 anymore. Both have an integrated WWAN card, as soon as I received the HP I switched the SIM from the Lenovo and used the HP as a hotspot to finish some work on the Lenovo (I have no other Wi-Fi at home).

Now I wanted to move my data from the Lenovo to the HP, and the first idea that came to mind was connecting them – via their respective docking stations – with a LAN cable. I remember that I somehow got this to work 8 years ago when I moved data from my oldest laptop to the Lenovo. No luck this time; the Lenovo was able to see the HP, but not the other way around, which I would have required.

So my next idea was trying to establish a shared folder via the hotspot Wi-Fi connection, but I found that ever since I connected the two laptops with the LAN cable, hotspot doesn't work properly anymore on the HP. I can turn it on and connect with the Lenovo, but it will have no internet (and say so). Also, even though the Lenovo is connected, it will still say "0/8 devices" on the HP. The same happens if I try to connect my phone.

I tried all the standard steps like resetting the network cards and reinstalling drivers, nothing helped. On the internet, I found a couple of posts describing the same problem (broken hotspot after using LAN cable) like this one:
But nobody seems to have been able to solve it.

Any ideas?

Sorry for not replying, but after a few hours of no success I got so frustrated that I haven't touched this issue since, as it was not of immediate importance.

However, I found the solution now:
Press Win + R and type ncpa.cpl
Right-click the internet-connected adapter (wifi) > choose Properties > Sharing > check “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection” > choose Hotspot adapter
I tried this both back and forth with the Wi-Fi and WWAN adapter, both did not work. Turns out all boxes must be UNchecked, as a hotspot is something entirely different and those settings mess with it.
