I only have a 32" monitor for my main. The main issue for me is that I have to scale down on the resolution a bit because 4K makes everything so small. Can't train myself to use computer glasses because they give me a headache. I'm so old school my start up button is still on the left of the task bar. Grateful that MS let us keep that option.

Huh? Just increase to scale (in Windows Settings > System > Display) to 150%, and leave the resolution at 3840 x 2160.

Nope. That messes up other things far too much. I really should have went with a 2K monitor.

Windows is still glitchy with mixed resolutions, depending on the machine 4K is coming out of.
Rarely is the proper Resolution and the ideal DPI both (Recommended) at the same time.
And, many applications are still not DPI aware.

It indeed is! In no way I would do it that way in my own system, just did a test for @Jingles.
But although he has been logged in into this forum today, we did not hear any response from him (or her)!

With a multi-monitor setup, I can see how that would probably be the case. I use just a single 55″ 4K TV so issues don't affect me at all. Only sometimes, I use Input Director to control both laptops at once (one is hooked up to the TV, one is standing right beside me), but issues don't affect that either.

As things currently stand I only have the main monitor and little 11" monitor that I use mainly for checking on processes and running diagnostics etc. It makes for a convenient little peripheral monitor. This allows me to see what's going on behind the scenes while I watch a video, write an email, work a web page, or do other menial tasks. When my AMD build is back together the small monitor will default to the PC that sits in idle. (I imagine I'll have to reconfigure my KVM for this again.) I have another 32" 2K monitor upstairs, in my bed room but alas, the stand is not adjustable so it cannot fit inside my customized shelf that gives me quick access to my toaster and my peripheral drives among other things. I suppose I could always McGyver it to fit but just reducing the res is a whole lot easier than lugging monitors up and down the stairs and modding one to fit inside a shelving unit that pretty much meets the rest of my needs. Now if I were a younger man I imagine I would be fussier about this but my eyes can't really see the difference between 4K and 2K when I'm 14 feet away from the monitor anyway.

Even if you can't see a difference in sharpness due there being too low a ratio between the screen size and the viewing distance, 4K resolution can still help to reduce eyestrain in a number of ways. Then again, on a 30″ screen at 14 viewing distance, I guess that most people who have 20/20 vision also are going to have a very hard time noticing a difference also in that regard. Most 4K screens with HDR tend to handle HDR significanlty better than most lower-resolution screens with HDR, but not everyone needs or cares about HDR.

However, some DPI-aware applications do a better job compared to others at showing each part of their window contents in a size that seems reasonable for what display resolution and what Scale you use. The 4K screen gives me additional options to choose between when it comes to the display resolution and Scale. This lets me work around the familiar-old size imbalance problem that still plagues many applications on Windows. Not all applications let me change the size/scale of different parts of their window contents individually where it matters. Of the ones that do, the ones that also let me make these changes in such a way that gives satisfactory results are still not really numerous enough for me. (But not everyone needs or cares about this specific workaround either.)

True enough. It did annoy me for a time that the screen best suited for viewing movies and documentaries was being used as an all purpose monitor. This old Samsung has served me well. The monitor in my bed room is technically a gaming monitor but I never game on it. I simply bought it because the price was right and I didn't need anything larger than 32". I still do a little casual gaming but nothing to warrant a full-fledged gaming rig. My wife and daughters are more dedicated to gaming than me. I always did have a thing for resolution though. Back in the day I used a Sony Trinitron CRT "flat screen" monitor which cost about double what a regular CRT of the same dimensions cost but the resolution was second to none. I have to say that they certainly have come a long way with monitors in the last 25 years.
