Solved Can I pause updates for longer than 5 weeks?

I see I can pause updates for 5 weeks. I've lost track of being able to delay updates since all the updates over the last few years lol! At one time you could pause for longer on Windows Pro. I'm actually only on Windows 11 Home at the moment - didn't get round to adding my Pro licence as I seem to remember it wouldn't make much difference - except to bitlocker - is that right?

Anyway just want to wait a while before 24H2 comes along. Being cautious.

I use WAU Manager to take over from Windows Update, it’s why I am on a lower build than some others. I have frozen updates past the initial 24H2 download. It’s lightweight unobtrusive and simple to use.


After checking the small box at the top to allow WAU Manager to take over, checking the “Normal” option below it, you can click “Update Windows Now” and it will show you the available updates before proceeding. You can chose not to proceed or select updates to install.
It can also uninstall updates.
If you run it first and let it take control, you are in control.

Don’t quote me on this but in the tutorial where it shows the registry edit, I always thought you could change that to whatever you like, for instance 70 days 1000 days.

There's no handy button for it, but you can click on a .reg file to pause updates for effectively forever (basically 10 years into the future).

After resuming updates, you can use the same file again to postpone updates again. The file specifies a restart date of 2033 (which is past the End of Life for W11).
