Can idrive back up one drive files

I have tried to look this up about idrive, and apparently it can, but as I don't understand how One Drive works entirely (had issues myself previously, and I don't use it), perhaps someone can suggest the best way to backup one drive files elsewhere. This is for stepson's computer and has all his college work on. Been meaning to add my idrive account to his computer for a long time (it has a full cloud backup of all files) but we hadn't got round to it.

So if he's using one drive and has files on computer and in one drive, where will they get backed up from - the computer or the one drive folder? Or twice? Or does it matter. Likewise if you did a system image, will it back up files in one drive, even if they later get deleted from one drive (ie will they reinstall if an image is reinstalled).

Just don't want him losing his college work.

Thank you. Although if it involves syncing anything, I'd rather not Just want plain copies all in one place! I like idrive for that.

Unless he is selectively dragging and dropping his files directly into onedrive on the web each time he creates a document,(which I doubt) he is already syncing whatever folder he stores files in on his computer to Onedrive.

All Multicloud does is sync what's in Onedrive in the cloud to another cloud provider like Google Drive or iCloud. Multicloud does not sync off the computer but between cloud providers.

Thanks. I've had to give up on the idea anyway - he refuses to let me near it I'm not allowed to do anything to it. Oh the days when they were young and hung on your every word ............. It's the second time I've tried.

I cannot see the logic of using idrive to backup OneDrive. They are independent cloud services.

I have access to both on my iPhone but I only have free 5GB idrive but 1TB OneDrive (as I have MS Office 365 on my pcs).

Idrive is quite expensive.

I use idrive for typical iPhone settings/ automatic passwords etc. For general data, I use OneDrive so it is easily accessed on all devices.

OneDrive is best used on Windows of course where files on pc are synced to web.

When you access it on a phone, you are really logging into it via the web directly. You can upload or download files as you wish.

The only reason to backup OneDrive files to idrive would be if you believed MS's to Onedrive would have a catastrophic failure but that is extremely unlikely as MS probably have the best redundancy servers in case one fails in the world.

Of course, it is always a good plan to backup critical data on both systems if you have adequate storage, not forgetting external backup hard drives etc.

I am pretty sure reverse of OneDrive occurs for idrive I.e. you can sync from iPhone but accessing it from a pc is basically just accessing it's web interface.

Simple terms:-

Onedrive syncs data on Windows pc to online account. Other OSs/devices only access it via web online account.

Idrive syncs data on Iphone (or Mac I think) to online account. Other devices can only access it via web online account.

So in the end, backing up OneDrive to idrive is pointless as you just end up with two cloud copies and it can be very expensive. Of course truly critical data can be backed up to both for peace of mind.

Same applies to any cloud service e.g. Dropbox.

Thank you for explaining. I already have idrive which I use on my computer, and can install it on others for the same licence The idea is it is to replace one drive, and purely as an emergency back up. It actually saves copies and doesn't just sync them.

If OneDrive is set to Files-On-Demand = OFF, the local OneDrive folder is then in real-time mirror sync with cloud OneDrive. Since all your files are then identical both in the cloud and locally, all you need to do is back up the files in your local OneDrive folder just like you do any folder. I've been using OneDrive for 18 years and this is how I handle OneDrive backups.

Makes you wonder what he has on the device if he doesn't want me to see it
