Can you replicate this bug on your Windows 11 PC? (Single Click BREAKS Right Click)

I think I just stumbled on a big bug. If you are BORED this is what I want you to do --

1. Open a folder with items on your PC.
2. RIGHT CLICK items to prompt the contextual menu. Now --

a. If your computer is set to open items with a double-click (which is default) you should be having no problems, but --
b. -- your PC is set like mine to open items with one-click, the contextual menu should be failing half the time

I had my systems on double-click and changed it to single click today and while the right-click menu pops up every time it can just as quickly vanish sometimes before I even move the mouse to select a command from the menu. There was a member here that soon after the release showed some flaky behavior in the interface that I was able to verify on my systems at the time (have not checked on those behaviors of late); so it's possible there is some flakiness that MS still needs to work out of the OS.

Nope. Switched to one-click, restarted Explorer, tried the r-click menu repeatedly. No probrum. Hmm, hmm.

It occurs on both my systems, the compliant and the non-compliant so if that's the behavior then it's more than just your system.

Both, and that's the version I'm running (which is what I wanted to know), and I can't get it to do that. I've tried several times, with explorer restarts and computer restarts, and it doesn't happen.

So now I'm wondering what your (Pool Man & wordsworth) two machines have in common that causes this thing.

If Edwin (whose machine is customized to a fare-thee-well, and produces beautiful screens) and I (whose machine is hardly customized at all, at least with third-party programs) can't reproduce it, well ...????

Yes, The Pool Man will have to give some specs on his machine, and I'd like to know what Edwin has well. So far a small sample size either way.

Yeah, okay, I'm on 318, on a compliant CPU, everything else compliant, built-in plain-bread Intel 630 graphics (cuz I do'n do no games) 16GB, and I've no idea why your system is producing this glitch.

I was just trying something. If I place the mouse so it has definitely selected the file (not yet right-clicked on it) then right click on the file the context menu opens and remains open as it should. If I do that and then quickly move up or down to the next file to right click it the menu will more often than not pop up then disappear. Waiting just that nanosecond after selecting the file and then it does not disappear.

I tried it. It's more like a big fat second on my side. But thanks for the workaround. I gave it the Feedback Hub treatment.

My hunch is software. I'm going to open 11 in Sandbox and see if the same behavior is there.

Whoa! Wordsworth! It is system level. I had the exact same behavior in Windows Sandbox.

Is it correct to say that no matter what I have installed in my 'real' PC (Greenshot, Malwarebytes, anything) -- it won't apply in Sandbox?

I would say that is correct. I enabled Windows Sandbox and dropped some files into a Sandbox instance of File Explorer and the right click menu is very snappy in it; try as I might I could not get the same behavior, although I still can from the Win 11 File Explorer. Getting late here and I'll look into this more tomorrow.

Update: I've enabled Windows Sandbox on both machines and in the Sandbox I don't get the same behavior on either machine in File Explorer; in Sandbox the context menu behavior is normal. Strange.

I'm on 22000.346 on a compliant machine...,
however, pretty much all my Explorer behavior, (W7 style), is governed by QTTabBar and StartAllBack.

(Just a thought: multiple monitors contributing to the issue?)

Hi,
Context menus disappearing was something all four systems had after 11 install but seen on desktop

It was gone after finally getting rid of show more off context menus using Brink's reg file and restart.

I'm still on ...282 on three builds and first release on the fourth it has not been updated yet since new build seems buggy from reports so I have not bothered updating it atm since ...282 would not be where updates stop.

On both machines I have one monitor. You have 22000.346? Is that Insiders? Edit: Never mind on the Insiders, I just saw Brink's thread on the update.

Perhaps the third party apps change the behavior on your system, or your system just isn't doing it. I did not notice any oddities before yesterday and after reading this thread I changed the File Explorer options from double-click to single and then noticed it.
