Solved Canary Channel Updates Issue on Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview

Bonjour,

J'utilise Windows 11 en sinsider wpreview en canal Canary, ne souhaite pas créer de compte Microsoft, j'utilise donc un script qui se nomme Enroller Windows quand on souhaite bénéficier des versions aperçus sans avoir à créer de compte Microsoft, cependant je rencontre un problème, en utilisant Enroller, il vous propose de 0 à 4 les différents canaux que vous souhaitez, et donc, j'ai choisi la version Canary donc le 0. Les motifs ont bien été réalisés, j'ai redémarré mon ordi et je reçois les versions du canal dev et non pas celles du Canary.

Et quand je fais Winver dans exécuter, c'est indiqué que je suis en canal dev et non Canary

Est-ce normal ? Est-ce un bug du script ?

Quelqu'un a-t-il eu ce problème ?

Yes, everyone has seen that. Winver has 'Version Dev' in it rather than Version 24H2'. It really is the latest Canary build though, you can tell from the build number 27695.1000. 'Dev' in this context seems to mean 'Development' rather than 'Dev channel'. It has been like that for a couple of builds now.

Winver shows it is a Development version:

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.
    29 Sept. 2026 Feature Update to 26H2 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 26H2.

Thanks for your answer but why when we do Winver, it is indicated dev channel is not Canary because the chosen channel is canary?

Winver has never said what channel it is, Beta, Dev or Canary. It always has the release name of the version it is based on, such as 23H2 or 24H2. The Canary channel is not linked to any specific build so it now no longer has a release name to use in Winver.

Yes i know all that but I chooosen canary build and I receive dev updates not Canary updates is it normal ?

f so if I understand correctly even if it is indicated dev I still receive updates from the Canary channel?

Yes. Check what insider Program is selected in your settings.

Yes, that is correct. The 27000 series of builds are the latest Canary channel, not linked to a specific version of Windows. Up to 24th July the Canary channel was on the 26200 series, which was based on 24H2. The 26100 series covers both Dev and RP and are the active development channels for the soon to be released 'Windows 11 2024 Update' (24H2). More details here:

This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine. As its new home has an existing digital licence for Pro I've been able to upgrade the migrated OS from Home to Pro.
    29 Sept. 2026 Feature Update to 26H2 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 26H2.

So to finish and close the post, I don't get excited about selecting the Canary channel via the script then? The script works fine and has selected the Canary channel, but even if it says dev, I don't get updates from the dev version but I get updates from the canary version are we in agreement? Are you sure?

Yes. I use the same script myself, I have machines in all the Insider channels, RP, Beta, Dev and Canary. They all get their correct builds.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to lid hinges starting to break up this laptop has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    I've now clean installed 25H2 and used Garlin's scripts to update Secure Boot to CA 2023 and revoke the PCA 2011 certificates. It's new role is to test secure boot issues.

    Info for 2021-2026:
    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

100% certain. It is just a silly bug that labels it Dev that crept in in recent update but rest assured, you are on Canary and will get Canary updates.

Hi there
so long as it's Win11 pro (or above) at install time simply choose - School or workplace on use for Home / School or workplace. Just select then Domain - and the install will continue with a local account - you don't need to have a domain.

Then Windows updates via WU - to whatever channel you need without problems.

If you actually don't want to use WU or register as a Windows insider - you can always download an ISO from UUPDUMP for the build you want and install that -- for Update simply run the install via the install.exe file on the ISO from WITHIN windows.
