Solved cannot connect my digital camera to my new laptop via wifi

I cannot connect my Canon Ixus 180 camera to my new laptop (HP Notebook 255 15.6 inch G9 with Windows 11) via wifi.

The camera can not find the new laptop, and the new laptop can not find any new device when I have them both turned on and looking.

I can connect the camera to my old laptop (HP Notebook SVA3KDL0, Windows 10) via wifi.

Thanks in anticipation.

I haven't downloaded any camera software onto the new laptop -- should I try to download the Windows 10 software, do you think?

I checked the Settings>etc and the only driver update listed there is: HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.7.0.0 -- should I download that?

Hi ajaye.

The software I would say couldn’t hurt, if you haven’t tried the software before you may find it useful. I couldn’t advise you on that.
But it will uninstall if you don’t find it useful
And unless it contains drivers, you may still have the issue of WiFi detection

Regarding the HP Firmware.
Is your HP device working OK? If so, I would possible leave it. There have been members posting about Printer issues lately. If it works, forget the firmware. If it ceases to work, the firmware would be a good place to start in the future if needed..

As @antspants mentioned... always download and install the manufacturer's software.
Especially for things like printers and cameras.

Some upper tier keyboards and mice, also have software/drivers, etc., that need to be downloaded and installed.

    Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
You said your laptop connected to the camera using WiFi in Windows 10.
I can only imagine the process with Windows 11 must have different protocols, or something.
What we need is someone who can suggest how to kick this into being detected as it did with Windows 10.

Off hand, I can’t think of why the Win 11 OS can’t find the camera.

The Canon Ixus 180 isn't a very popular Canon camera and has been replaced by the Canon Ixus 185.
That's the only reason I can think of. It was probably new-ish in the Win 10 years.

I downloaded the Canon software but Malwarebytes has quarantined a Trojan.Loader file which prevents me from opening it.

Maybe it will be easier/safer for me to transfer the photos via the memory card?

I went to the link provided by @antspants, but can't download the software without the camera's serial number.

Temporarily disable Malwarebytes, download the file and scan it here...

Side note: That software is from 2016, and the highest OS it lists is Windows 10 64bit.

That would be a false positive by Malwarebytes and I would suggest disabling it until after you have the software installed.

The memory card is a good compromise if you are willing to make it, Ajaye.

I have software from back during Windows 7 that I still use.
In fact I have a Canon EOS driver for an old Camera that was for Windows 8/8.1, that still woks in Windows 11

I have one of those also, but they named it something different in Australia for whatever reason.
I also use a cable. The only wifi option for that camera I believe involves an apparatus connected to the camera?
