Can't access C drive on network computer

From my main Win 10 computer, I went to File Explorer / Network and clicked on my Laptop and I see the D drive and click on it and see all the files and have total access. When I click on the C drive I get this error message:
you do not have permission to access \\laptop\c

I've tried several things already from google to no avail. I right-clicked my laptop C drive and selected Security and tried to give Full control to all the users in the upper box. I got some error messages, but it seemed to work pretty good, but not good enough to solve the problem. I am the Administrator. I then did this:

“Win+R” enter “services.msc”;
Check whether the following services are enabled: • Function Discovery Provider Host (FDPHost) • Function Discovery Resource Publication (FDResPub) • Network Connections (NetMan) ...
Restart the device and check the network tab again

None of them had "Enabled" so I set them all to "Automatic". I'm not sure what is meant by check the network tab again, unless it meant check services.msc, which I did and is fine. I also tried to access it again from my main computer and still get the same no access error.

Did you try the simplest of all solutions. --Forget Security etc etc -- loads of I.T techs - probably overpaid and working for the most USELESS SITE in the entire universe REDDIT was spawning out even more useless and obfuscating solutions than usual.

On the "C" drive - right "rodent" (pic here) - but I think a conventional mouse might suffice.

click -->properties-->sharing-->share this folder -- etc etc.

try connecting to \\laptop\c$ - root drive is not normally shared, but C$ is the default admin share - or used to be, back when I did support.

System files are not normally shared. It makes sense that they wouldn't be since even you are not assigned access to some of those system files.

Share your user folder instead using @jimbo45 suggested method.

The first thing I tried was the Jimbo suggestion. The only difference is under permission for the C drive I only see 1 entry - "Everyone". Should I hit "add" and add something else?

I couldn't find a way to connect using this:
\\Laptop-9g170es0\c$
I can't find a way to add the $
I'm using File Explorer/Network - map network drive. But the folder info is greyed out

Keep in mind this is a store bought Acer laptop, so I have a feeling they put all sorts of roadblocks trying to keep newbies safe.

View all shares including hidden with following command.

Code:

net view \\pc-name /all

In order to access the hidden share in Windows, you need to go to Windows Explorer (My Computer) and type the full UNC path to the folder.

Code:

\\Comp1\MyFiles$

You can connect to hidden share from Command Prompt like so:

This is my laptop's name that I find on my main computer going to File explorer/Network
\\Laptop-9g170es0

On my laptop I opened command prompt administrator and typed this:

net view \\Laptop-9g170es0/all

I got an error something is wrong with the syntax. Please explain

Also how do I use this command in my situation?
\\Comp1\MyFiles$

Do I type this?

\\Laptop-9g170es0\C$

You are not separating /all switch execute the command as i have posted.

I redid it
C:\Windows\System32>net view \\Laptop-9g170es0 /all
Shared resources at \\Laptop-9g170es0
Share name Type Used as Comment
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADMIN$ Disk Remote Admin
C Disk
C$ Disk Default share
IPC$ IPC Remote IPC
Users Disk
The command completed successfully.

The next thing I did was go to my main computer File Explorer and typed into the main bar
\\Laptop-9g170es0\C$
A window came up asking for the user name and password. I did that and got and error message saying I didn't have permission.

I then put this in the command prompt of the laptop
Net use \\Laptop-9g170es0\C$
Successful

then on my main computer file explorer I typed this
\\Comp1\MyFiles$
and got the error about needing permission

What's the next step?

You need to provide user account password to connect to share.

Yes I provided user account password to connect to share, but it still didn't work - denied access.

Earlier I was able to bypass putting a password in for accessing the D drive with my Network Sharing setting unchecked for password required.

You give a second user a share permission on a shared file or folder, and you will use that user to connect to shares..

Is the 2nd user on the Laptop or the other 2 computers? On my Laptop I can already access any file on the other computers, but no computer can even see the files on the C drive of the Laptop, because of a permission issue. I'm not trying to share a specific folder, I'm trying to share the whole drive.

Yet the main reason I want to share is there is 1 folder on the Laptop that I want my network computer to be able to back up. So sharing that folder may work in this situation

I went ahead and selected that 1 folder on my laptop C drive and opened Properties/Sharing/advanced sharing and gave permission and full control to Everyone. It still doesn't work, same permission issue
