Solved Can't Create Dual Boot

I am trying to create dual boot on my other pc. It was originally on 10 and updated to Win 11 via Windows update
It is fully compliant for 11.
I want a dual boot of both Windows 11
I created a partition of unallocated space
Downloaded an ISO but it tries to install in place of the other OS by the look of it
Any help gratefully recieved

I don't know, it just automatically installs offering to keep my files and folders etc.

Did you mount the iso and select this from the sources folder...

It should ask you where you want to install. Are you not getting that screen?

After you click that set up file it'll ask if you want to go online to search for updates, click no. Then it'll ask about product key, select I don't have one, then select custom install at which point it will show your drives and partitions and the unallocated space

One thing....after you partitioned the drive did you create a simple volume? it won't see it if you didn't

I have tried booting from the same USB or from Setup.exe, It checks for updates and then starts to install it dose not ask for the product key that is why I think it is installing to the C: partition. I wonder if if doesn't like installing 11 twice, maybe I should dual boot 11 and 10

Once I tried it and it could not find any devices to install to. I shall a good look at it tomorrow and report back

I have both 11's. Don't click set up.exe. You need to open the iso and get that set up from the sources folder pictured above. Format the unallocated space as a new volume in disk management before you start

So recap...
Format the unallocated space as a new volume first, I always name it rather than keep it as new volume so I don't muddle the target partition up a bit later

1. Open this (or similar)

2. Then open sources

3.Then choose this (it's quite a way down)

4. Accept UAC
5. Don't check for updates
6. Choose custom install
7. If you've formatted the target partition then it will show up, select it and then OK
Let windows do it's stuff.

This install will become the default boot option, you can change that later in MSConfig if you want

Yep - this.

When you install via the iso, you can only install to a formatted partition.

The guide I followed on the web did not mention formatting it, it said leave it unformatted. ....Off we go to try again

I'm dual booting on 3 laptops. All I did was to create an unallocated space behind the last recovery partition by shortening the C partition and moving the recovery partition to the left. Installed to the unallocated space.

Yeah, exactly what I do but if I leave it as unallocated set up will not see the space to install to, I've always had to format the created partition

That's odd as it's recommended to install on an unallocated space.

Still not there yet........After following the advice of @CornishRattler Everything started to install exactly as it should. The computer said it needed to restart to continue and it restarted but then the sad face and we ran into a problem the code was boot device not found or something similar. New simple volume, drive letter F: and called Windows 11 Dev
