Solved Can't Create Dual Boot


Yeah, thank goodness for Macrium
It failed at the point just as it started installing it said it needed to restart only it then errored

So how is it now, depending on where it got to I was going to suggest booting into Macrium RE and selecting fix boot problems, that happened to me on an install and Macrium sorted it out

Not a lot of point if you're back to square one. I would try the install again

I went right back to square one and started the whole thing and got the inaccessible boot device error again I tried as it kept recycling the restarts and got to Macrium and tried boot repair but nothing, just my normal C: drive showing. I wonder if it is something in Bios or UEFI. This is only a cheap Dell Inspiron and only bought because it was 11 ready.
At the moment it is how it was before I started

That's weird. If it's 11 ready it's 11 ready. You already have an 11 install on there

Your specs on your 2nd machine, does that have an Optane drive? just thinking outside the box here as it should work, with Optane it probably will be a different process

For dual boot you need to remove ssd 2 disk and install windows 11 on the first ssd disk m2 or which already when windows are installed and finish all updates on that windows installed shut down computer remove it and insert second disk reinstall windows with all updates when you did shut down the computer and insert another disk with windows installed for the first time windows will boot from that last disk download EasyBCD and adjust and that's it.

Thanks yes, I is just one SSD partitioned and the F: is what I created. Does it make any difference if I use the iso from usb or from the ssd

I create the unallocated space first then boot from the installation media to install on it.

Why is it important because when you install on the first disk it automatically writes the EFI system file as in the attached picture if you install windows on the second disk and you don't remove the first one it doesn't write the EFI system file for some reason I don't know. I have 3 windows installed on 3 disks perfectly.

There is no difference, you just have to follow the above instructions, you can have 6 windows installed, you just have to install separately on each disk, it is best from USB

It shouldn't make any difference but they were all Win 10 installs originally and then upgraded to official and Dev channel Win 11.

@The-Hive Rod, your disk layout is fine, just checked mine. Did you have a look to see if it was an Optane drive?

This is mine, I have 2 on a second internal drive but the process is exactly the same as I posted

I believe it is, How do I check I am on System One now I will look tomorrow. I wonder if The Windows installer is looking for the iso in the wrong place after it restarts

Arghhhhhh damn Optane!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you may have to install the drivers prior to installing. This needs thinking about some more. I think a USB install is a must now though
