Never seen recommended to run SFC a second time, if DISM can't fix a problem usually best for some type of reinstall.

Alright well we don't need a debate on SFC/DISM. If you run SFC and it fails, and you run DISM, you have to run SFC again to let it fix stuff. Also, Microsoft says run DISM then SFC, and that's good enough for me.

I always run DISM first as it repairs the image that SFC is going to use to fix things.

Correct order is dism then sfc.
Reason is if the image is corrupted then SFC might not be able to properly repair system files.

All the replies re Win+S were for your benefit, because you made it obvious you didn’t understand “Why use Win+S” And from reading your last post, you still don't.

Type CMD
Right click on result and choose Run as admin

It’s really that simple and is how many members tell people to do it when creating a step by step.
It’s no more steps than opening terminal and selecting Command window.


My approach is more direct, thanks.

right click the task bar and on that menu click task manager

at the top of task manager window click 'run new task'
in the new task window in the run box write
make sure you tick 'run as administrator'.

cmd.exe

the command prompt will open with admin rights.

My point was I can open Powershell with two keystrokes, and it will solve the problem. Win-X then A

I didn't consider UAC as I have that annoying little twit shut off. Hear this Microsoft: if I want to infect my system, I will darn well do it without an extra click! :lmao:

I think we're going to need a spreadsheet for all these options... with a lot of "If you've set this..." qualifiers. It's getting deep!

Since a bunch of folder shortcuts are on my desktop, it doesn't take any extra clicks to open them. ;-)

All I have to do is:
  1. Type cmd in the Start > Search box.
  2. The best match is usually Command Prompt.
  3. Select Run as administrator.

You can also run the Terminal program with Administrator rights.
Right-click on the Start button
Select Terminal (Admin)

One of the options is to select the current Terminal application
For example, PowerShell or Command Prompt
