Hi all. This is my first post and I am desperate. I have installed Windows 11 and am now unable to open any browser. When I move the cursor over a browser icon on the task bar, I see the small window of the browser. When I try to click on the window, I just see my opening screen. I have tried every fix that Google has come up with and no results. Am I doing something wrong or am I screwed?

Can you search for your browser e.g. Chrome.exe and double click that, if it works unpin your chrome from the taskbar and pin the new one from chrome .exe. Have you tries opening it from the start menu.
No details about your system. are you using a release build or insider build? was it an upgrade or clean install?
If you have had it for less than 10 days you can roll back to Win 10 and start again.
The more details you supply the easier it is to find the solution

If you can launch from the .exe (e.g. chrome.exe on my system lives in C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application) then you've got an icon-to-.exe association issue. If the .exe won't launch manually, it's something else. Please let us know what you figure out. Good luck & happy trails!

Welcome to Eleven Forum

If you see a small window when you hover over the icon on the taskbar, like this....

.... it means that the browser is already open. Moving to hover over the small window should bring the real window to the front, and clicking on the small window should keep it there.

So if your browser is running, then where is it's real window? Possibly it's position has been corrupted somehow and is trying to appear off the edge of the desktop somewhere.

One way to reset the size and position of all opened windows is to right-click on an empty part of the desktop, select Display settings, then change the display resolution to a smaller size, eg: change from 1366x768 to 1280x720. This should reset the size and position of any open windows that would be outside the desktop area. Once you have the browser window back in view you can resize it yourself, or set it to maximised. Then you can put the display resolution back to its recommended default size.

fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.
