OS
WIN 11 PRO
Every once in while I get this irritating sound notification 5 note descending melody 1 sec pause and 5 ascending melody. This is a recording studio computer, so it's coming through my loud studio monitors. I went to Control Panel / Sound and on the 2nd tab it says "sound scheme" I put it on no sounds and then even saved my own no sound scheme and unchecked play windows startup sound. I also went to Settings / System / sounds. I may need a registry tweak to stop all Windows notifications

If I play Win media player it comes out of the back of my computer, using the built in audio and into my mixing board. I have a MOTU sound card for my recording studio also going into my mixing board.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like an alert of some kind. Check which apps are running that can give notifications.

For system sounds I always disable the whole lot of them and this setting. I frequently am using the audio (listening to music etc.) and don't want Windows or some app burping, beeping or bonging at me.

Not an immediately identifiable Windows sound scheme option. Probably related to an individual program

As @S0C9 suggests, check settings for individual programs running in the background

EDIT
If at the end your tether, out of sheer frustration, run Ultrasearch over the whole C:\ drive for Audio file types only. Examine the list

Still getting this irritating chime 5 notes descending then 5 notes ascending. I've tried all the above including turning all notifications off and using the do not disturb mode. Is there a reg edit that will solve this. I have a sound card and this irritating sound is coming out of into big speakers. I do need the on board sound that comes out of the back of the computer - the speaker output.

I installed Process Monitor. It seems to only have today's activity. The last time it happened was yesterday. Do I just need to wait until it happens again?

Thank you! I've been using CrystalDisk to look at temperatures of a new NvME drive and am hoping that was the culprit. Have disabled it due to your post and am hoping that's the end of what was an extremely annoying notification that could come at any time 😣
