Solved Casting to my Vizio TV the entire HDMI screen, not just browser page

I can cast an edge page to the TV. What I was wondering, can I cast the entire laptop screen to the TV?
TV has built-in Chromecast and Apple air play.

Is there a single HDMI dongle that could do that?

First thing that comes to mind is the differences in screen casting protocols. Different devices have different protocols where newer browsers support pretty much all of them. Compare the casting specs between the devices you are casting to. Direct casting is trickier than using browser.

PS: Windows directly supports Miracast.

You know, I have the TV connected by ethernet and when you do that, it disables the WIFI of the TV.
I was wondering if TV need to be connected by WIFI and to the same router as Laptop?
I can try that.

Yes, I assumed you were on same WIFI network, my mistake. Although if Mesh then SSID could be different but still work.

I know it is not the Vizio being the problem. I can screen mirror from my Galaxy phone to TV, just tried it, phone sees and connects.
The laptop does not see the TV

I don't get how edge can cast to the vizio ok using the laptop, is that some kind of different method?

On laptop, I can cast from Edge a tab playing YouTube 8K video and it plays perfectly on the 4K Vizio. Smooth as it can be.
When I connect laptop to 4K Vizio using HDMI cable, Vizio tells me stereo 4K HDMI connection

It is an Asus i7-8550u cpu with 16gb ram

It appears as a device to cast to from Edge browser

I loaded Chrome, and I don't see the Vizio listed, why is that? I see my galaxy phone listed.

Honestly the whole thing seems flakey and weird to me, why this not that. etc...

(OK, i was doing save and share which is why I did not see vizio)

I found out I can cast a tab or the entire desktop from Chrome browser. You right click, select cast, at bottom of pop up menu, select source (desktop or tab) then click the device (Vizio). Chrome casts a tab with perfect quality to the Vizio. However casting the entire desktop, image is fuzzier and sound is off and on. And when casting the entire desktop, mouse icon goes huge...

So casting from browsers does work with my hardware. I will mark solved, but it has issues as it is not great image when showing the whole desktop.
