Change folders in Program Files

I want to give the folders in the folder program files a nice icon but its not possible. Somebody knows how I can do that? I use W11 home.

Try right-clicking the folder, choose properties, customise tab, change icon. Or is there another method you were thinking of?
Some folders may not allow customisation if Windows considers them 'special' folders.

In Windows 11 it seems not to be possible to change any folder in the Program Files folder or Program Files (x86) folder.

I did a short test with an empty folder (only some text files in it):

• Made a new folder in the folder C:\Program Files (permission needed and granted).
• Copied the whole folder to some other place like my document folder.
• Changed the icon of that folder.
• Deleted the original folder from folder C:\Program Files (permission needed and granted).
• Copied the folder with changed icon back to the folder C:\Program Files (permission needed and granted).

That worked, the folder now has another icon.

Attention: I only tested it for a testfolder, nothing special in it, no real executive files or dll's. You would have a big risk, that the program in that folder would afterwards not function anymore, because not everything was copied to your document folder. Might be some invisible (sytem) program files or dll's. So be very careful with what you do! Better don't do it at all!

And anyway: why would you want to change the icons of those program folders? What use would it have? How many times do you need to view files in the program folders at all? If so desired, you could make shortcuts (snelkoppelingen) of the folders you use most and put them in some other place, on your desktop for instance. There you can change the icon as you wish, without danger disturbing the programs itself.

Have the solution found did it with TunupUtilities 2013.

What folders could not be changed.

I did an ownership on the 2 folders of Logi and after that hide them. But the folder Windows Defender can do no ownership and can not hide the folder. I use an ownership that I put in my contextmenu.
