Clean install issues

Hello all...

I decided to attempt a clean install of Windows 11 using a USB stick created through UUPDump. I have used this USB drive before but recreated the disk after this latest update came out (build 22000.132). I followed the clean install tutorial and it progresses OK until I get to the point of where it tries to get me connected. I have cable internet and I have shut the modem off. First, it recognizes internet from my neighbors about 200 feet down the road. I type in any passwords and it obviously cannot connect. I have no other options. It just sets there. Oh...it tells me to use another device and check aka.ms/networksetup. I don't have another device. Is there a workaround for this? I reread the turotial but it doesn't work on this computer. I think I have my computer listed in my profile. It has worked before. Maybe I need to wipe the drive completely before I attempt to run setup again? Thanks for anyones help.

If you're clean installing, definitely wipe and start over - let the setup process create the partitions it needs.

Regardless of it worked before, if you rebuilt it, it's not the same drive anymore. Did you download the c/o build to make the .ISO from?

After UUPDump finished, I used rufus to create the USB drive. I'm unsure what you mean by c/o? Sorry.

there are 2 types - but for a clean isntall, it actually shouldn't matter, I think. Let me double check.

I'm on the dev channel so I chose x64 in that option...if that's what you are asking

Nah. There are always 2. one with a c/o in the name and one without. The c/o goes ahead and downloads all updates when you're building the .ISO, so it is a bit smoother. You can disable internet and it wil lstill ahve all updates already as of when you built the .ISO.

Er, I mean for building the .ISO - both will have all updates when the final .ISO is built.

Sorry.

So, it really doesn't matter which one you built from - just clean the drive and try again.

I wiped the hard drive in this laptop with shredOS. I used the same USB drive with the lastest build (22000.132) created by UUPDump and the dev build. I followed the tutorial closely. I could not get it to bypass the internet, even with my internet turned off (cable modem unplugged). It picks up neighbors cable internet which is secured of course and the random passwords I typed in obviously would not connect. The alt+F4 key doesn't apparently work when there are wireless internet connections available. I finally as a last resort turned airplane mode on and setup went past that screen. MS apparently has forgotten about OOBE because it was not easy. I probably have erred somehow. And setting up a local acct wasn't exactly easy either. Before I reinstall back on this machine, I will write down notes from the tutorial and retry again. At the moment, I have Win 11 installed. I may redo the USB drive. UUPDump takes a fair while to complete. I will try to download the ISO and just create a USB. And go that route. Thanks for your help. I hope you were successful. Thanks!

You might take a look at this write up that @Kari did on forcing Windows 11 Home to use a local account.

Otherwise, without this workaround, you are forced to have an Internet connection so you can sign in to a Microsoft account.

The information we have at the moment is, that Windows 11 Home edition cannot be installed using local account. A Microsoft Account, as far as we know it, will be obligatory. I can confirm it at least when using build 21996. I spent last night with testing all to me known tricks, nothing...
