Solved Clean install of Windows 11 - can't install WinZip

Yeah... EMCO Unlockit is pretty powerful.
It can get you in loads of trouble if you go crazy and start unlocking everything. :)
It's kind of a last resort type of program. Don't "play" with it.
If you have kids that can access the computer... you probably shouldn't integrate it with Explorer.
If you have kids you probably shouldn't even install it. :cool:
You'll come home one day and find they deleted the System32 folder.

BUT, when you need it... it's a great program to have.

7-zip has consistently worked on releases of Windows from XP to current - free as well.

Do you have a problem with the temp/tmp folders?

Or changed anything regarding the temp/tmp folders in the environment variable?

I did move them to a separate drive but my first test was to reset to defaults. Didn't fix it.

I may be off base here, but just out of curiosity, could you right-click on the WinZIP installer and select properties? Do you see something like this?

If so, check the "Unblock" box, click "OK", then try installing again.

Nope it doesn't have that Security box

The MSI installer writes its log file in the path: c:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\temp.

Maybe there is something useful in the log, as long as the installer can create its log in the specified path.

My User temp folder is D:\UserTemp, the log is in there. I looked at it but can't see where the install fails. I moved the Temp folder back to %USERPPROFILE% default but that didn't fix it. My Temp folder was on D: when I installed WinZip before, prior to clean installing Windows

I moved my User Temp and System temp back to their default locations on C: today, now WinZip installs without problems.

Not sure if that fixed it, or if there's some permissions issue with some folders or whether doing a repair install the other day fixed it. Marked as solved.
