Thanks for the link. Should I partition during install or after using disk management, 200 GB to C active and 250 GB to D. What would they be in MBs?

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 13 years?
The Windows 11 iso download and install will format the USB flash drive.
Typically Rufus is not needed.

So I don't need to run the iso in rufus as shown in the attachment?
Thanks,

Alexey2912, Ghot's suggestion is a really good one, but I just wanted to point out that if it's any easier, rather than physically disconnecting other drives your system, the BIOS on a lot of systems allow you to simply disable the SATA ports to which other drives are attached.

In my system, I currently have 6 drives installed so rather than physically unplugging them all when I perform a clean install, I simply disable those ports, install Windows, then re-enable the ports afterwards.

This simply ensures that all partitions and everything associated with the new installation of Windows will end up on the same drive and nothing gets scattered to a different location.

Of course, not all BIOSes have this option, but if present, it can make it easier so you never have to pop the cover on the system.

My laptop has only 1 drive with 2 partitions.......C with W11 and Off and apps. D is empty.

My query still is what should be checked?

Thanks.

Depends on what you want.

On doing clean installs of Win 11, I have always deleted all partitions on the target drive using the installer, and then allowed the installer to create the partitions it requires.

I have never tried to retain an existing partition.

W11 iso can directly be transferred to a usb vs. using refus?
Rufus can be used to prepare a bootable USB drive. It doesn't literally transfer an ISO to the drive. (Transferring its contents is more accurate, if not necessarily the whole story.)

I have not used Rufus. I usually do prepare the USB drive myself. There's a complication if the ISO includes an install.wim file that is larger than 4GB, as the USB drive must often (not always) be FAT32 to be used to boot a UEFI system. If you use Rufus, it deals with that.

The Microsoft website for the Windows 11 iso will format the USB flash drive and then install the iso.
The end user does not need to prepare the flash drive.

Alternatively you could download the iso to the desktop.
Then use Rufus to prepare the drive for the iso.
These are extra unnecessary steps.

Some end users may want to install Windows on an Apple computer.
This is where Rufus may be needed.
