ClearType Support For OLED

I was just wondering if any techi-types knew of the situation with this?

There is a clear problem (pun intended!!) with OLED sub-pixel layouts and Windows.

Given that OLEDs are gaining in popularity in the PC gaming market, it almost surprised me that Microsoft have not added plug and play to ClearType, to resolve the issues.

Myself, I use two monitors, and there is no solution that I know about that allows me to select different sub-pixel layouts for each monitor.

Does anyone know if Microsoft is working on anything?

The Display Data Channel (DDC) standard doesn't specify providing hardware data on sub-pixel layouts, so it can't be read from the monitor. Sub-pixel rendering can be wrong if you rotate the monitor 90 or 180 degrees. This really impacts laptop or tablets that can flip around.

LG OLED TVs add a white subpixel to boost potential screen brightness. That can cause issues with text display.

OLED PC monitors may lack that. No text issues there. Unfortunately, dedicated OLED PC monitors are expensive. A 27" OLED monitor may cost $1k (US) or more.
