Hi there,

I have been receiving the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT BSOD after I changed a display card. It happens even after I installed a clean Windows 11. I used driver verifier to judge the root of this problem and it turned out to be nvlddmkm.sys.

Then, I uninstalled the driver of NVIDA via DDU and installed the latest driver. I thought it was finally solved.

But it happened again.

I have uploaded the MiniDump file (find out the below link).

061722-7062-01.dmp

Also, i uploaded the zip file from v2 log collector.

Thank you!!

It's a fresh Windows installation with BSOD.

The logs are in a foreign language and cannot be scanned.

1) Please run:

Post a share link into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive.

2) Uninstall Driver Booster and any drivers installed by this software.

3) Run Prime95 for 3 hours.
Make note of the warnings to abort testing as needed.
Record the continuous test duration and the highest temperature.
Post images or share links into this thread.

4) Run OCCT
Each test for one hour > post images or share links into this thread

5) For any new BSOD post a new V2 share link into the newest post.

Hi zbook,

Thank you for your help.

I tried to uninstall the updates made by Driver Booster as you say. And I chose a restore point that had some terrible issues. So my PC cannot start up now. I will reinstall a clean win11 using my u drive and wait for BSOD happen.

FYI:
First time I received the error is after I changed from RTX3080 to RTX3060.
I have been receiving the CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT BSOD even after I installed a clean Windows 11.

Then, I used driver verifier and let my pc crash for 3 times.

The First time it said: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AERA What failed: nvlddmkm.sys

The Second time it said: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AERA What failed: nvlddmkm.sys

The Third time it said: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED What failed: nvlddmkm.sys

And the following is link for these MiniDump files:

Then, I uninstalled the driver of NVIDA via DDU and installed the latest driver. I thought it was finally solved.

But it happened again.

If possible install using English as the default language.
Then when troubleshooting has completed plan another clean install for the preferred language.

Install drivers displayed on the motherboard or component manufacturer websites.

Turn off Windows updates of non-Microsoft drivers:

Plan hardware testing: CPU, GPU, etc.

I'm going to get some shut eye.
Will catch up with you later in the day.
The Prime95 and OCCT links are in the prior thread.

If multiple GPU cards produce BSOD then make sure all PCIe ports are tested.

There is no definitive motherboard test. So it's process of elimination.

Hi zbook,

How are you doing today?

1. I reinstalled my PC at noon (very clean, delete all partitions listed and there is only one unallocated drive).
2. In the initial setup of my new win 11, I pressed shift+F10, ran taskmgr, and then closed the network connection flow to avoid auto intallation of drivers.
3. Then, I used usb to paste the latest graphic card driver installation package downloaded from nvida website.
4. Now, I am running OCCT. So far I haven't connected my PC to internet and no BSOD happen.

Do I have to run 1 hour for each testing for OCCT? It's really time consuming.

Hi Qian Wang,

Nice progress.

The OCCT Memory testing can be skipped.

RAM testing will be performed by running Memtest86.
The Memtest86 can run overnight while sleeping.
A link will be posted at a later time as needed.

Prime95 and OCCT stress testing are useful for CPU, GPU, PSU, etc.

There is no motherboard test.
There is some duplication but tests too often have false negatives and this gives more opportunity to find malfunctioning hardware.

It completes each test in approximately one hour and displays an image when completed.

Please use the snipping tool to capture an image and post a share link into this thread.

There were two new BSOD seen in the log files since the clean install.
One failed to create a dump file.
One was caused by Nvidia GPU driver nvlddmkm.sys.

1) How many different Nvidia GPU drivers were tested?
latest: 31.0.15.1640

2) How many Nvidia GPU cards were tested?

3) How many PCI-e ports are there and how many were tested?

4) Which hardware components do you have available and which ones can you borrow for swap testing: GPU, motherboard?

I tried two versions of the driver (default and latest). Both seem to come with errors.

My motherboard is gigabyte Z590. There are three pciex ports, but the other two are *8 and *4. Can I use them for testing?

Sadly, I have no more graphic card and motherboard in hand.

The Intel CPU has no iGPU.

Please check the options for GPU connections to the motherboard.
If there is more the one option then please use it for testing.

See if you can find a friend, neighbor, relative, or local computer store to swap test the GPU.

It can be Nvidia or AMD.

If the BSOD are too frequent see if there is any reduced frequency using safe mode (shift + restart)

The two BSOD mini dump files posted separately were caused by misbehaving Nvidia driver nvlddmkm.sys with driver: 31.0.15.1640

The logs so far displayed BSOD bugchecks 3B and 7E
The live kernel events displayed bugcheck 117

The BSOD bugchecks and live kernel reports with switching PCI-e ports support a malfunctioning GPU card.

When possible please swap test the GPU card.
If testing produces computer stability with a new card then replace the GPU card with a new one.
