Computers randomly change date/time zone

I have 2 PC's before the update the PCs time zone was fine one of them randomly got date and time change notification and it seems to set back 1 hour. I'm -5 ET (US) and it changes to -6 CT (US) on the second computer. I update both computers and now the first one is having this issue while the second one fixed after update???

I also click sync now and that doesnt work..
I restarted but nothing happens. How do I fix this?

One thing that can affect time settings is use of a VPN, hides the actual location when on the Internet. Larger populations areas can have more than one Internet Service Provider and workers could have a computer subscribed to a different one than used at home. Some BIOSes have a setting for the time When setting up a new Windows computer the default time is PT, Microsoft is in the West. I use bootable Linux LiveUSB drives for diagnostics and it always sets the time to an hour East of England [UTC/GMT -1]. in Western Europe, and have to remember to reset when finished and booted back into Windows.

I don't use a VPN and I didn't recently set up a new windows install. Also, for some weird reason the calendar displayed language in chinese..

Since you have already covered all the bases in the previous posts you may wish to have a quick look at the time settings in your UEFI/BIOS. A weak CMOS battery can also wreak havoc with your time settings in addition to various types of software. Just a thought.

Gave Dell touch screen with Windows 11 to daughter and got me an OTVOC. Being a PC builder I own many desktop PCs as well. I am a father of five providing PCs, laptops, and tablets for all my family, most of which I have modified, rebuilt, or simply built from scratch. I do not own a cell phone, never have, never will.

Not knowing the age of the system, I'm thinking it's the CMOS battery.

Got the system in Jan 2024, not that old. lol But I will check BIOS sometime tomorrow.

Check BIOS and it appears that it says the same time that I have the PC set to in Date & Time Settings. I changed the time to the correct local time and every time I click "Sync now" with Microsoft's Time Server, it goes back to the wrong time. I did this with "Set time zone automatically" on and off. Same result.

What happens if going to the Time settings and further down add another clock? I use the local zone and UTC/GMT.

I have it turned off on all of my computers. It hasn't caused me any problems.

When I began encountering this on Windows 10 I just downloaded the software for an atomic clock and gave up on the MS version. In time one of their updates fixed the problem I guess, because I'm on Windows 10 right now and it's keeping the correct time. :-)

Based on the Time zone on this PC via the picture you posted it's showing Central Time. Earlier you posted you're in Eastern Time! As you suggested turn off Set Time Zone automatically but then you have to set the correct Time Zone to Eastern. Sometimes what happens is your ISP can cause improper Time Zone to be detected by the PC thus show the incorrect one.
And BTW the UEFI/Bios will always show the same time as the OS shows. If you update the time settings within the OS, even if totally incorrect, the system RTC on the motherboard will also be updated. The CMOS battery is there to keep the RTC energized retaining the UEFI/Bios settings on the motherboard until the system is powered on again. If the CMOS battery is bad or some other RTC malfunction then the system will boot using the time of the system clock will be reflected in the OS....that is until the OS performs a system time update via whatever method is being utilitized.
