Hello
I have my older Ivy Bridge build running Windows11 Pro 22H2 which I see support runs out on 18th October 2024. Now I have not got any update to version 23H2 so does this mean that I will not get any updates for my Ivy Bridge after that date?
Plus just what does this mean for the future use of the Ivy Bridge - even though Microsoft states that 22H2 and 23H2 are identical? Now I am guessing that security and driver updates will still be available, and I have the ESET Ultimate antimalware software running. Even so I am still concerned that I will not be safe using the Ivy Bridge build?
Any thoughts really appreciated.

You can try the 23H2 Enablement Package...
23H2 was installed around July 2023, but not turned ON. In Oct. 2023 they started rolling it out slowly.
The Enablement Package just turns 23H2, ON.

My understanding is that if your system supports SSE4.2 then you’re fine
If so, Jumping from 22H2 —> 23H2 —> 24H2 should be achievable.

Ok have checked my CPU and it states it supports SSE4.1, SSE4.2 and AVX the latter I have no idea what that means without chasing it down. So knowing that means I should be able to get the 23H2 version. My only concern now is if my system goes down the tubes just what I can do about that. I suppose I do have a disk backup on an external drive to restore the system and will sleep on it for a while.

The SSE 4.2 instruction set is only required for 24H2.

For 23H2, just run the Enablement Package.

John, is it the Intel i5 3750K you’re concerned about?

Yes mate I got it wrong with the CPU number as always trying to type faster than I actually can LOL!! The CPU info I got that from the Intel.com site so it looks like I can run 23H2 at least as it has a bit longer "shelf life" eh? Oh and thanks for that link too I had forgotten about that one, and by the by I built the machine in 2012 and remember the CPU was really quite expensive back then as I ould have liked an i7 but......

Mine is 3rd generation Intel Core-i7 3770 also supports SSE4.2 and PopCnt, so I can upgrade from 23H2 to 24H2. The only issue is I have a Legacy BIOS installation and I read the new Windows bootloader supports UEFI only. So I have to replace it with the 23H2 version after upgrade in order to boot in my system again. Every newer Windows update might also replace the bootloader and render the system unbootable. So I must have the 23H2 USB flash drive handy and replace the bootloader as needed. I know, you were going to ask why not do a clean installation of 24H2 in UEFI mode. With the amount of data I have to backup and the dozens of applications to reinstall it would take me many days due to lack of time. No thanks. I might consider a clean installation if there is a major issue in Windows I cannot fix with an in-place upgrade/repair.

    Legacy MBR installation, no TPM, no Secure Boot, no WDDM 2.0 graphics drivers, no SSE4.2, cannot get more unsupported ;) This is only my test laptop. I had installed Windows 11 here before upgrading my main PC. For my main PC I use everyday see my 2nd system specs.
