Connected, Yet Not Connected

I am totally unable to use the Internet on my wife's computer, and I have not any idea as to how to fix this. Her computer is clearly connected to the WiFI from our router, but as soon as I try to use it on-line, i get a message that I need to visit a page about connecting to the Inet. Clicking on that link or entering a page to visit brings up a page about installing the router on a phone.

I have restarted the computer, which always clears anything of this nature on my computer, including whatever it was that I encountered some six hours or so earlier today, but which had no effect on the computer in question. I even turned it off and restarted it, and I still face the inanity of being told to install the router on a phone. I have exhausted my slim list of what to do to fix the problem, so am here yet again to request assistance from those who have a vaster knowledge of fixing what seems to me to be absurd interference with using the computer that is in question.

I cannot state affirmatively that this is the most aggravating problem on-line I have encountered since joining the predecessor of the Internet, CompuServe in October, 1983 (I am fairly sure it was in a month of October, and was probably that year.) I have, or course, encountered other impediments in computing, but this must be, ifinot the worst one, near the top of a list if I had one

You can reset your network configurations through the Windows Settings App to resolve persistent connection issues.

Using the Settings AppPress Win + I to open Settings.

Click on Network & internet on the left menu.

Select Advanced network settings on the right pane.

Scroll down to More settings and click on Network reset.

Select Reset now, then click Yes to confirm.

Restart your computer when prompted (Windows will give you a 5-minute countdown).

Also scan your computer malware infections.

Your ISP should be able to help you with this.

Myself, I don't do WiFi for reasons like this and for other reasons. Try Ethernet for a solid connection.

I don;t know what help Xfinity might be able to offer.

The idea of drilling a hole in a thick wall, then in the banco, then stringing a 30-foot-long Ethernet cable through the holes and laying it down on the living room and dining room floor does not particularly please me.

The other computer, mine, is a lengthy our feet from the router.

If you haven't set up your router than yes continue with setup.

Take a screenshot of this.

Are you sure your connected to the right network and not a guest one?

Are the other devices plugged in via wire?

Is this your router or comcast/xfinity router?

The router has been properly set up for several months: Modem/Ethernet/Router. Netgear04 is what Windows 11 25H2 shows in Network & Internet.

I have a grand total of no devices connected via wire.

The router is a Nighthawk RS90 from Netgear. It may or may not have a problem: A few weeks ago. the number 3 light turned off when I was out of the room. There is a ticket with numerous items for me to submit, but a few days ago, a Netgear agent told me in an email that there is no problem. I wrote back asking for clarification; I have yet to receive a reply. That stated, I just ran an Okla speed test, returning 471Mbps. My Xfinity contract is for 400 Mbps; add to that the normal addition of 100 Mbps for each year. (Okla tests can vary: I got 3xx before rerunning to get the 471 result.)

[Just as an aside, 400 Mbps is fine for what I am now doing, but would have been too slow for my 10-year-long project to modify Class A Foam and Compressed Air Foam Systems, a wildfire system, which I modified for use by the structural fire service. I was in constant conversations world-wide, wrote the first book and the first training manual on the subject. Stated otherwise, I needed higher speed to keep up with my project which I am pleased can be easily proven to have been successful.]

have you attempted on the computer that is not connecting to the internet
setting up a static WiFi connection

open settings > network & Internet > WiFi
then set the connection settings to manual

IP address example
192.168.1. 77

Subnet mask
255.255.255.0

Gateway address example
192.168.1.1

DNS Cloudflare
Primary > 1.1.1.1
Secondary > 1.0.0.1

or Google DNS
Primary > 8.8.8.8
Secondary > 8.8.4.4

Note > Example settings depend on your routers addressing
please check your router for the correct addressing

save the settings then try the WiFi connection please

If the ISP provided the router they will generally offer you support and directions on how to set up your connection and ensure that it works correctly. This is called technical support.

You don't necessary have to drill holes to run an ethernet cable and there are several ways of running it along a wall without it becoming a nuisance or an eye sore. There are several types of ethernet cable available today to help with this. At any rate it would make for a good trouble shooting test.

Have you given any thought to using a Powerline adapter to connect via Ethernet? It uses your mains house wiring to do that so you don't need to run an ethernet cable across the house. I use one here in the UK, not sure if US protocol is the same.
