Windows 11 login issues(corp connected machine)

Anyone experiencing this at work ? We use Intune he affected laptop are both HP G9. No issues last week. Machines have been patched recently. Thought it might be KB5072033. Anyone else seeing this ? I can provide more details if possible. I fixed one user who was local by logging in as myself then deleting the three temp profile folders it tried to create. Ran chkdsk found a rubbish ton of errors. Cleaned those reboot and then the user could login.

If you can't log in because your user profile is corrupt, you normally reboot, login to your temp account, launch regedit, head to: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList, look up the user profiles listed there and you will see two of them, one the temp account you're on and one that's your user profile that's stored with a bak. extension.
Delete the other one, remove the bak. from your user profile and click and set State to 0. Find RefCount and set to it 0 and if it doesn't exist, create it as a D32 word value and set to it 0. Close the registry editor and reboot your PC. You should be able to login in again to your user profile.

In addition to the fixes outlined above to help identify the cause what endpoint protection software is in use (AV)? In my experience the root cause of this stems from a given users registry hive file (C:\Users\<username>\NTUSER.dat) being locked up by some process on a system. That process tends to EPP/AV products that take took long scanning the hive file which results in Windows creating a temp profile.

Your user profile isn't really gone, its backed up and you can't access it in that configuration. You have to delete the temp user profile and reenable your user profile to login to it again.
