I have Windows 10 but i am thinking to buy Windows 11 to have a clean install without old garble gib on my drive.
Now, i don't know if this makes sense or if it does.

Also, if i would buy a new copy, what would give the pro version (besides Bitlocker) that Home doesn't have.
I assume that i still don't escape the telemetry and adds that come with Windows nowadays.

I have a fairly ok PC so far. I don't play the newest stuff and everything that i do play, works fine so far.

Anyway, i just don't know if buying Windows 11 makes sense.

I personally use Rufus.
You can tell the install media to bypass bitlocker and pre enable a local account.

You don’t need to format the USB, RUFUS will do it.

  • The latest ISO is available via the Media Creation Tool. (Option One in the tutorial below)
    • At the time of this post, the latest version available from Microsoft is: > Windows 11 Version 24H2 build 26100.4349 ISO
    • Before Media Creation Tool starts downloading Windows 11, when asked, tell Media Creation Tool to create the ISO and not burn to media (USB)

  • Download RUFUS
    • #1 Direct RUFUS to your USB
    • #2 Click “Select” and direct RUFUS to the ISO that you downloaded from Microsoft.
    • #3 should sort itself out if the OS drive is partitioned properly. But to be sure, make certain it’s GPT. Your Windows OS really should be partitioned to GPT. Make sure #3 says GPT
    • If you’re running an older system and have no choice but to use MBR (According to your HDD partition structure) then choose MBR at #3 in the image below. Find what partition table is used, in this Tutorial
  • Click “Start”

  • After clicking “Start”, the following options will show — Make your selections.
    • Select Remove requirement for 4GB+ RAM, Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 (to bypass requirements) IF you need to.
    • Select Remove requirement for an online Microsoft account
    • Pre tell the installation to Create a local account with username and give it a name (if you want to)
    • Set regional options to the same values as this user (On the PC you’re creating the media on)
    • Disable data collection
    • Disable Bitlocker automatic drive encryption
    • Use “Windows CA 2023”
  • Click OK and the USB install media will be created on the USB
  • Once Rufus has created the USB installer, you can proceed with the Windows installation.

If they have a activate version of Windows 10 and want to stay on the same Home or Pro version of Windows they shouldn't need to buy anything. They Just need to download the correct Windows 11 version.

I wasn't clear in my answer.
I think i like the pro (the link went away for some reason) for the local account. Plus Bitlocker.

Though i was surprised with the website. You always learn something new.

But, i have to buy a larger drive beforehand. My drive is getting a little crowded now.

I saved the other link. Now i have to assume that the key will unlook the correct windows version. Probably.

Rufus is something i use sometimes. Especially with Linux ISO. A side hobby. So i am familiar with that tool.
The last time i downloaded from MS was the latest Windows 10 iso. The one i got with the USB key was very old. Tons of updates when installed.

The only time it can be an issue is when it’s a laptop with an embedded version/key.

I proffer to use the Microsoft web download as apposed to Media Creation Tool. Select the Pro version for download.
They all update in the end.
If you use Media Creation tool to download the ISO, make sure you uncheck the part where it says something like “The same as this PC”

If you upgrade your activated Windows 10 Home build the Windows 11 Home build, you can upgrade to Pro by entering a legit Windows Pro key.

This can be true but I'm a if I'm not having any problems with the OS I'll do the upgrade to save time and all of the extra work involved. My post was to let them know that if they wind up with Win 11 Home they can upgrade to pro by entering their Pro key. It's possible that if they do a clean install and the Win 10 Home key is in the BIOS that the install will install the Home version instead of the Pro version.

Just set up a Dell laptop with Win 11 Home for a friend. Traditionally Bitlocker wasn't included on the home version but it is certainly seems to be now. I turned it off for him as it wasn't required.

It’s not BitLocker but Device Encryption. Same underlying encryption technology, but lacking some management features.

I have two computers with Windows 11. They both started with a local account. Because of that encryption was never enabled on the drives.

BTW, one computer, my laptop, came with Windows 11 Home. To upgrade it to Windows 11 Pro I had to first change the key to the generic key for Windows 11 Pro. The upgrade then started. After it was done it rebooted. After I logged in I changed the key to the Windows 11 Pro key that I had bought.

If i remember correctly, in the beginning of Windows 10 it was possible to have a local account very easy but it seems to have changed to make it harder to enable that.
I bought the key and my computer now runs pro, which is nice. No problems, once it was activated it upgraded automatically.
Its all a PC adventure.
