Solved copy windows 11 to ssd with image

Hi I've installed windows 11 on unsupported hardware on a spare ssd made a image file, will I be able to copy that image to another ssd or does it have to be another clean install with flyby11

You do not copy images nor do you copy a system drive

Images are created and restored using the recovery media for whatever third party app you used to create your image.

You may be confusing imaging with cloning. Cloning also used a third party app to create a sector-by-sector, bit-for-bit replica of an entire drive, including partitions, boot sectors, and empty space, resulting in a fully bootable and functional duplicate.

If you will give a few more details about exactly what you've got and what you used, we can answer you better.

installed on a ssd using flyby11 put all my programs on to give it a test seems to be fine, made a copy using Hasleo backup suite will i be able to use this image file to install on another ssd same desk top computer.

A drive image is like a zip file, but instead of having files and folders compressed into a single file it has all partitions of a drive (with all files and folders) compressed into a single file.
With the same application or program that made the compressed single file you can expand it to another drive (HDD or SSD), as long it has sufficient space to hold the uncompressed files and folders of all partitions.

Unsupported hardware might be a problem, it depends on what's in the image. Was it created to be able to run on the unsupported hardware?

yes I used Flyby11

Whatever method you used to remove the restrictions for unsupported hardware, so Windows 11 would instal, an image for one computer won't work on a different computer because they are different hardware. The image will contain drivers etc for the first hardware so it won't work or there would be issues.

So if wanting to install on another unsupported system you would be better doing a clean install again. I don't know how Flyby11 works, but most people just download the ISO from Microsoft and burn the usb with Rufus - which enables you to bypass the restrictions,

Once you have that iso burned on a usb stick with rufus, you can use that to install Windows 11 on any machine as a clean install. An image is really just to reinstall the machine you made it on, if you ever have an issue - it's a backup basically.

When you clean install with the Windows 11 usb burned in rufus, on another machine, that machine will activate based on the activation code in that machine's motherboard.
