General Create Shortcuts to Open Pages in Settings in Windows 11

  • Staff
Settings_banner.png

This tutorial will provide you with a complete list of ms-settings URI commands to directly open or create shortcuts for any Settings page in Windows 11.

Microsoft designed Settings to be beautiful, easy to use and inclusive of all your Microsoft experiences in Windows 11. Settings has left-handed navigation that persists between pages, and Microsoft has added breadcrumbs as you navigate deeper into Settings to help you know where you are and not lose your place. Settings pages are also all new, with new hero controls at the top that highlight key information and frequently used settings for you to adjust as you need. These new hero controls span across several category pages like System, Bluetooth & devices, Network & Internet, Personalization, Accounts, and Windows Update. Microsoft also have added expandable boxes for pages with a lot of settings.

Almost every Settings page has its own URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) that allows you to directly open any Setting page from command line, Run (Win+R) dialog, address bar of File Explorer, address bar of web browser, and in scripts (ex: .bat). You can also use these URI commands to create shortcuts.

Starting with Windows 11 version 22H2 KB5030310 Build 22621.2361, Microsoft introduced a new homepage in Settings that offers you a dynamic and personalized experience. It provides an overview of your device, quick access to key settings, and helps manage your Microsoft account.

References:

To use the URI commands to open Settings pages from command line or script (ex: .bat), you would need to add the Start command with a space after it in front of the URI command in the table below.

For example, you would use the command below to directly open the Windows Update page in Settings from command line or script:

Start ms-settings:windowsupdate

For example, you would use the command below to directly open the Windows Update page in Settings from Run or to create new shortcut:

ms-settings:windowsupdate

For example, you can add explorer in front of the command like below to be able to create a shortcut you can Pin to Start and Pin to taskbar.

explorer ms-settings:windowsupdate

Press Ctrl + F to search table.

Hello Mr @Brink ,

Is there a way to open the PAC settings directly? I use it a lot, and I have to turn it on/off, page (URL) to page!

The shortcut you mentioned above (ms-settings:network-proxy) opens the proxy settings page and needs an extra mouse click! Also is not pin-able (we can't pin it to Taskbar or Start). We should make a shortcut on the Desktop or make a favourite (link) from it in Edge to access the page.

Hello @atinfo, :alien:

You can add explorer in front of the command like below to be able to create a shortcut you can "Pin to Start" and "Pin to taskbar".

explorer ms-settings:network-proxy

Hello mate, :alien:

This is normal for it to change to include the full path of "explorer.exe" instead.

Is there a way to open the PAC settings directly?
The problem is solved with the help of some guys and this bat file:
Batch:
@echo off
title Toggle Proxy Auto Config URL

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v AutoConfigURL

if %errorlevel% == 0 (goto Delete) else (goto Add)

:Add
reg add "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v AutoConfigURL /t REG_SZ /d https://URL.pac
exit

:Delete
reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" /v AutoConfigURL /f
exit

Replace "https://url.pac" with your PAC's URL and save it as "CustomName.Bat" file. By double click on it, the toggle key changes (it adds a reg key to turn it on, and deletes the key to turn it off).

I found it by trial and error (typed various names for the shortcut!).

how about this one - apps/advanced apps settings/archive apps

i think it found something in the registry as AppOffloading but that didn't work as a ms-setting.

i tried:

:advanced-apps-archiveapps
:archive-apps
:advanced-archiveapps
:advanced-archive-apps

no luck with any of those combinations.

Hello, :alien:

"Archive apps" is a setting on the "Advanced app settings" page instead, so it will not have a page link.

You could use ms-settings:advanced-apps to open the "Advanced app settings" page.

but some examples like that do have their own link, like nightlight and visual effects -

start ms-settings:nightlight

start ms-settings:easeofaccess-visualeffects

The main differences is "settings" vs "page of settings". Only the page will have a link. :(
