I don't and unable to remember what source was this from, maybe a tech radio podcast, but they mentioned that eventually Microsoft accounts will now have the ability to create your own username profile instead of the first 5 characters from your email address.

Does anyone know about this plan?

No this was an Insider feature that supposedly rolled out to Retail editions. There's a new advanced setting on the bottom of the Computer Name screen, to enter a custom 16-character folder name.

Half the users swear it's released, the other half can't find it. 🤷‍♂️

Is this it? Has this been rolled out yet or not yet?

That's my point. I don't see it.

But Jen@MS swears it's out, and the May Preview 2026 release notes:
[Windows Setup] New! You can now choose a custom name for your user folder on the Device Name page during Windows setup. The updated experience makes it easier to select a custom name during setup only. If this step is skipped, Windows uses the default folder name and continues setup as usual. User folder names must follow standard Windows naming requirements.
