Creating multiple installs of same printer - single-sided and duplex printing

My laser printer is an HP 401dn. How can I do separate "installs," , as in different printers to choose from, per the subject line.

this may work.
change the name of the printer that you have installed

then use add printer to add the printer again but also change the name of that printer.
that should enable you to have 2 sets of printers using the same printer with different names.

then you can set each up as you wish for single or duplex printing.
