2022-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5012643) causes Performance Test (all versions) to crash when calling d3d9on12.dll. I have been working with tech support at PassMark to find the issue. After sending them the crash dump file they found it was a d3d9on12.dll file issue. I reinstalled Windows 11 (Clean install) doing the updates one at a time and testing if PT failed after each update. I would like to report this issue to Microsoft, but do not know how to go about doing this. Thank you in advance for the help with this issue.

The Feedback app is probably the best way to start this process. In Windows 11, unless you've removed the app, pressing [Windows key] + F should open it up and you can report the issue, It will require a Microsoft account login, IIRC.

BTW, for those paying attention - this is the second report of this exact update breaking something - and I'm about to make a third one. All three issues are directly related to this update, but pretty much completely unrelated to each other.

Here is the other one, and after I make my post, I'll link it here as well. KB5012643 breaks Skype

And now my thread: KB5012643 broke my Night Light toggle in Action Center

It was not the .Net Framework. I did that update before doing KB5012643 with no issues. Just removed KB5012643 and PT is working again.

Trying to uninstall KB5012643 from another computer and it says "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled". Tried to uninstall from Safe Mode, but that did not work either. Is there another way to uninstall KB5012643? KB5012159 uninstalled just fine.

Interesting. Once I'm off work, I'll give uninstalling it a shot also, especially as I manually installed it in the first place.

I have tried to uninstall KB5012643 from Control Panel/Program and Features, from Advanced Startup/Advanced Options/Uninstall Updates and also using Command Prompt (Admin) “wusa /uninstall /KB:5012643”. None of them has worked. I did get an error code using Command Prompt of 0x800f0905. I’m starting to wonder if I did a Disk Cleanup and did a Windows Update Cleanup. Would this be the cause of not being able to uninstall the update?

Honestly, not sure, it may be.

But you could also look into System Restore, see if it has the update listed as a restore point, and of so, revert to a previous restore point.

I just checked mine and I have a restore point that seems to be the right one, but it is labeled Windows Modules Installer - and it would apparently revert 3 browsers, OneDrive and my SteelSeries app to older versions as well. But the time stamp on it does, in fact, look like the right time when I installed the KB 2 days ago.

See if you ahve something labeled similarly in your System Restore app.

I do not have a restore point the correlates, so I tried going back to the one just before the release. It did not go well at all...would not boot and so I reverted back. I downloaded KB5012643 and so I am wondering if I can reinstall KB5012643 and then uninstall it?

I ran into this issue a couple days ago and took a dive to see what the cause might be. I noticed that there's a missing entry for System.Runtime.Serialization, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089 in the older GAC. This is the location at %WINDIR%\assembly and not %WINDIR%\Microsoft.NET\assembly. You can verify this with gacutil.exe (as long as it's the older version that searches the appropriate GAC). I used an old Visual Studio 2008 Developer command prompt to check.

I was able to fix the issue simply by checking and unchecking a box in the "Turn Windows features on or off" dialog, which can be found from the start menu. More specifically, the ".NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)" item... Uncheck that, restart windows, open the dialog again, check the box and opt to reinstall all of the files from Windows Update. I restarted one last time after this to ensure all pending operations were completed successfully.

.NET assemblies are lazily loaded at runtime, unless preloaded for any reason. The crash will occur the first time System.Runtime.Serialization is required.

@radman3d - Give the above a shot (second paragraph) first and see if that helps the situation, although it may affect apps you have starting at boot / login, so be ready for possible complaints from the system.

If that doesn't work, your idea to try manually installing the .msu is a good one too - you can get the file from KB5012643 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Build 22000.652 - April 25 under the section Direct download links for KB5012643 MSU file from Microsoft Update Catalog: (near the bottom of the first post).

Too many issues. I had already started a rebuilt and decided to finish it. It is done. This system does not have much software on it and it did not take long at all to reinstall Windows 11. Hopefully Microsoft will not put out another POS update like the last one! I will make sure to make restore points too in the future. Thank you to all for the help!
