With the latest CU for 24H2/25H2 (.6899) coming in at over 3GB, I've wondered why MS don't just release a new major build and start at .1 again?
Updates are much smaller at the start of the release cycle!
Maybe have 26221.1 or something but including the .6899 CU? Have that as the new baseline for future CUs

Of course MS are not known for using common sense 😂

When 24H2 was announced, MS declared it would do Checkpoint CU's with the goal of having later KB's be small incrementals.
Two problems have blown away their argument:

1. The LCU available for offline download is bloated (since May 2025) by 1.3 GB of AI modelling components, which most users don't actually need or want. They didn't choose to separate the AI into a standalone KB.

2. MS has never replaced KB5043080 with another Checkpoint. One year later. Nor has anyone publicly hinted at what the Checkpoint release schedule would be (quarterly? semi-annually? annually? never again?).
