One of my SSD partitions is encrypted with Bitlocker, using software encryption. I am experiencing slow response times besides the sluggish performance of (new) Explorer.

You could use self-encrypting drives.

As you status query shows, c: is not even encrypted, so the OS and its programs cannot be affected.
