Data transfer stops because laptop goes in to lazy-mode

Good morning all,

I regularly transfer large amount of files, typically 500GB or so, to OneDrive. This takes several hrs to get completed, that is perfectly ok with me.

BUT when I leave my laptop to do something else the transfer is not continued untill completed. After a certain time the laptop goes in to lazy-mode and takes a rest.

This morning I tried keeping the system alive by using the COFFEE tool ( Coffee ) but my laptop also goes to lazy-mode when using that tool.

Are suggestion to work around this issue ?

I know I can manually tweak the power settings but I am after a simpler and easier solution than that,

What is easier than tweaking your power settings?

This is probably the root cause of your problem.

If you do it yourself:

a) you will know what changes you made and impact of changes (and how to reverse change)

b) you will have learnt something positive.

An idea: I'm Copying data for a client from a 2TB NAS drive to a new 2 x 2TB NAS drive which is set up with RAID 1 [mirroring]. The Windows File Explorer was stumbling over it mostly with being interrupted so I got Total Commander doing it and running overnight has seen no problems. I have the paid-for version but there's others file manager, some free, available from www.majorgeeks.com, Free Commander is one.

What is easier than tweaking your power settings?

At least 1 billion things are easier, and perhaps even more

Please be aware I know I can manually tweak the power settings, and afterwards tweak them back, but I am after a simpler and easier solution than that because doing that multiple times a day is not what I am looking for.

Hi Berton. Thanks for the suggestion. I have the feeling this is not going to help with my issue, after all I am having the upload being handled by OneDrive.

Once ? Powersettings can not be triggered by datatransfer as far as I know

RE: what I posted in #3 and changing to use Total Commander has been progressing quite nicely, hasn't had a hiccup yet, has copied 84GB with 100 til finish.

I am confused how that will work together with Onedrive
Isn't OneDrive a folder on the drive that is synced with the cloud? If that is true then any file manager could work like File Explorer does but maybe better. I don't have any need for it so don't have anything in it.

Yes. Copying files with total file commander takes les than one minute, and then Onedrive takes hrs to upload the stuff to the interweb

If you have S0 Low power idle [aka S0 Modern standby] then that will kick in when your display gets turned off by whatever you have set in Power options.
S0 progressively inhibits user-initiated tasks so it fits in with your description although I am not at all clear about what you mean by lazy mode.

To temporarily keep my computer from sleeping I use a program called Insomnia. I start it to prevent sleep and exit it to return my computer to normal.

Thanks Rick. I am not after changing the power settings. I want an easier solution. Unfortunately the Datatransfer Treshold Option of the COFFEE tool does not work so at the moment I click on MS Powertoys to keep the system awake, and right-click-exit the icon in the system tray when I want to go back to normal.

Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connected
Hibernate
Fast Startup
The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.
Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.
Standby (S3)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
This standby state is disabled when S0 low power idle is supported.
Hybrid Sleep
Standby (S3) is not available.
The hypervisor does not support this standby state.

With lazy mode I mean the system stops the datatransfer because the system goes to a mode where it basically think there is nothing to do because I am not using the touchscreen or mouse or keyboard. Standby hibernate sleep shutdown, no idea what mode.
