Solved Default app?

Hi,

How does one remove or add a installed app and made default?

Like in my case made VLC as default, now I cannot undo it?

Reset and Restore Default Apps for File Types in Windows 11 Tutorial

Settings-Apps-Default Apps-find VLC in the list and click the right arrow next to it. That gives you a list of all the file types that VLC CAN open and tells you which ones have VLC as default. Select the file types you want to use another app to open. You will be given a list of alternative apps that can open that particular file type.

You might have 2 things going against you here ... Windows 11 hasn't quite got the proper gist of the principle of default 3rd party apps (lotsa forums with users having problems with defaulting to 3rd party software - jury is still out whether Win11 or 3rd party problem).

Also, VLC was a bit iffy on occasions in Win 7/8.x/10 about letting go as being the default - if it got a bee in it's bonnet that it wanted to be it, change it all you like, it'd keep coming back.

Best solution (worked for me) in Win 11 - uninstall VLC (use RevoUninstaller, run Advanced clean up after uninstall (do not reboot), and remove all registry entries and leftover files/folders).

Then re-install and manually assign default file types in Win 11 settings, not through VLC.
