Delete Microsoft Account Passkey?

Hi everyone,

I have a passkey I don't want on my Microsoft account. I have two YubiKeys set up to log in to my Outlook account and that's all I want, but I have an additional one set up that is stored in Windows (I assume the TPM?). It shows up as "Passkey from Windows Hello".

If I try to delete it in Windows Settings, it says "This Passkey cannot be deleted because it's required to sign in to this device".

Is there any way to delete this passkey? It does not show up when I log in to the security settings (both Yubikeys are there).

Can anyone help?

Hello, :alien:

Some passkeys for login.microsoft.com can't be deleted, as they're used with your Microsoft Account for signing in to the device and Microsoft services.

Even though I use them on a few sites I have to admit I'm still confused about Passkeys.

There is no way to transfer them to another app/device. That is my main gripe with them.

I have some saved in my MS account and some saved in my Dashlane account. That's about all I know. On second thought, I know two things about Passkeys. The second is that I hate them.

Passkey = password + 2FA, it is more convenient, thus less secure. You no longer have to verify a device, but if somethings goes wrong, it will go terribly wrong. According to MS, it is impossible that someone steals your phone or PC or a session remotely. I would prefer to login to Windows via my phone EVERY SINGLE time, but MS does not allow it. It enforces the insecure passkey, because it is "better".
