Accounts Delete User Account in Windows 11

Account_delete_banner.png

This tutorial will show you how to delete a user account to remove it from your Windows 11 PC.

Having different accounts on a shared PC lets multiple people use the same device, all while giving everyone their own sign-in info, plus access to their own files, browser favorites, and desktop settings.

You can add a local user account (an offline account) or Microsoft account for a user to sign in to the PC with.

If you have a user account on your PC that is not being used or no longer needed, you can permanently remove it by deleting it.

Reference:

You must be signed in as an administrator to delete a user account.

You will not be able to delete a user account that is currently signed in. You will need to sign out the user first.

Yes but....what if you can't find any entries in the user accounts but have an entry under "settings/accounts/email and accounts" and when you go to the two that are there, the first being your normal login all working just fine and want to delete the second one present all you have is "Manage" and manage takes you to a sign in login and the password you entered is not excepted. (used before but now I've retired I no longer need or want it.)
How do I get rid of it? Microsoft tell me that the email address is not a business account.
I've been through the registry hunting for the email address and deleted all instance that I can find.

Bugger both accounts that are there say "Manage". No option to delete....so both are signing in ..I don't think so. At least I'm not aware that I am.

Did you see step 3 in option 2 available to Stop signing in to all Microsoft apps automatically?

Yes but Its greyed out and Manage is the only thing that I can do

In that case, go ahead and post some screenshots showing what you're seeing to see if anything may stand out. Be sure to blank out any email address before posting them.

It looks like you are signed in with a Microsoft account then which is why you are not able to remove your outlook account.

Are you able to use option 4 below to remove the work or school account?

@Brink Hi Shawn,

Over the years I've forgotten some things.
When I started up my new 11box I got trapped in the "sign-in with your MS acct." ploy. I should've had the router cable dis-connected but didn't. At that point I should've done a hard shut-down, dis-connected the cable and re-started. But didn't.

The only thing I could think of was to use my wife'sbhs, ms account and now when I start-up I see her name and I have to use her password to get in.

What I want to do is remove her ms acct. and replace it with me and no ms acct. I've looked at this tut and I'm not sure if it fits my situation.

Does it? Or can you suggest a better tut?

Thx,

Anak, . aka. . Steve :-)

Hello Steve, :alien:

One option is to:

1) Create a new local account for yourself with a name you want.

2) Make this new local account an administrator.

3) Sign in to the new local account.

4) Delete the wife's MS account.

Thx Shawn,

I haven't read the tut's yet, some questions;
3) Sign in to the new local account.
Will I need a password to sign-in?

As an alternative:
Can I do #'s 1, 2, skip3, then do 4 ; Then reboot and my acct Anak will come up on the screen without a password requirement?

Personally on a restart or startup I'd like to go directly to the dsktp, but that's a different tut, right?

Have some readin' to do.

Have some readin' to do.

You'd only be able to delete the wife's account while it's signed out and signed into another admin account (ex: new local account).

It's not required to have a password for a local account. You can leave the password field blank while setting up the local account.

Sure, you can have netplwiz in option one below automatically sign in to your new local account at startup.
