This tutorial will show you how to delete a user account to remove it from your Windows 11 PC.

Having different accounts on a shared PC lets multiple people use the same device, all while giving everyone their own sign-in info, plus access to their own files, browser favorites, and desktop settings.

You can add a local user account (an offline account) or Microsoft account for a user to sign in to the PC with.

If you have a user account on your PC that is not being used or no longer needed, you can permanently remove it by deleting it.

Reference:

You must be signed in as an administrator to delete a user account.

You will not be able to delete a user account that is currently signed in. You will need to sign out the user first.

Great!
You'd only be able to delete the wife's account while it's signed out and signed into another admin account (ex: new local account).
I thought of that after I posted

Does it matter if the network cable is in?

No. You can delete the wife's account while signed in to the new local account (if made an administrator) without being connected to the Internet.

You only need an Internet connection if adding a Microsoft account for verification purposes.

When I went through the initial power-up of my PC, it walked me through creating a user account, not local. I did all of my setup, program installations, customization, etc. on that account. Later, in a ill-advised effort to get rid of the UserID and PW on powerup, I added a second account. I've solved the UID/PW thing and now want to delete the second account.

If I follow the process in Option One, will it:
1-Get rid of the log-in choice for that user?
2-Completely delete c:\windows\users\"Name I'm deleting" and all its subfolders and contents?

What else happens?
Any downside I'm not anticipating?

Really obvious questions, probably, but I don't want to paint myself into an unexpected corner.

Hello Buddy, :alien:

Deleting an account will just remove the account and its "C:\Users\<username>" profile folder.

Hi Shawn,

That didn't happen in my case, after I selected the acct. I wanted to delete I expected the dialog to ask me if I wanted to save files and folders from the old acct. as mentioned in the tut but when I clicked next it told me that the operation completed successfully and I was returned to the dsktp after a restart.
I wasn't to concerned about it b/c there wasn't much generated in the few days that the deleted acct. existed before I deleted it.

But, Lo and behold the files were saved in documents and usable. ymmv.

@Buddy,
Really obvious questions, probably, but I don't want to paint myself into an unexpected corner.
That's how I felt.
Hi, I don't mean to jade your decisions on how to go, just relating what happened to me.

It worked that way for me, too. Fine with me, because I wanted to delete all the stuff under that account.

Please tell me if there is a way for me to remove the account that the person who sold me this computer installed. It had no extra programs that didn't come with Windows, as far as I can see. Every program I've installed says it belongs to him. None are listed under my user settings. I created an account as an administrator. I tried to remove him using all the methods you listed here. Also, Windows 11 is 21H2. There is an icon that says it has reached the end of service. When I click on it to upgrade, it opens a dialog that says Windows is up to date. I used one command. I'm not sure whether it was this post or another. I think it was under your post in the Similar Windows 11 Tutorials section. View All User Accounts on a Windows 11 PC. It listed a WDAGUtility account. I'm not very computer literate anymore. I'm 66, and my memory is failing me majorly. ("His user name is newus". Another thing, I checked the device manager, and it says several things aren't installed correctly.
