Solved. Finally got rid of the "Windows.old" folder. Went into each folder and deleted what I could, then using CMD tried to delete the complete folder- no go then changed the folder from "read-only" after which it changed it's self back to Read-only. Then Ran SFC scannow, after which I checked "System > Storage > Temporary Files And there it was ready to be deleted - Removed files and checked C:\- NO Windows.old file. Only taken a couple of weeks.
Ps on my laptop Windows.old was able to be deleted after the 10 days via system/storage/temp files.

I'm glad you were able to delete the folder. Others have said that after about 10 days it disappears (on it's own). Is your experience different?
