Dell XPS 15 9520 Powerbank?

As Denis notes, ultimately you may need to check with Dell, the manufacturers of the wall chargers or power banks to get authoritative answers. I'm working with general information, but as noted previously, I don't know for sure if everything is standard or any equipment is proprietary.

Let me give one example of the weird stuff that can happen.

I have a laptop that came with a 90W charger. The charger died. As noted, I have a bunch of other chargers. I tried one that is a 100W charger and it didn't seem to work. But then I noticed that if I left it plugged in for over two minutes it would suddenly start charging the laptop. I have another 100W charger from the same company, just a different model, that works perfectly with that laptop, no delay in the start of charging. I also have a power bank that won't work with that laptop if I use a 100W USB-C cable, but the same power bank works with the laptop if I use a 65W cable. That limits the charging speed, but it works. Why would not work with a more capable cable? No clue.

The point is simply that I can only talk in general terms. If you want to be 100% sure it works the first time, check with the authorities on the matter.

If you want to absolutely guarantee compatibility, simply get another 130W charger from Dell. As for the power bank, check with companies to see if they specifically tested it with your laptop.

Thanks for the response. Well the thing is Dell doesn't sell a 130W powerbank as they only have 65W and it is only that PW7015L and the PW7018LC.

Bought and tested the dell pw7018lc usb-c powerbank now. Had to first charge it for few hours. When i plugged it into the usb c port on my xps 9520 laptop, message pops up bottom right corner

Now on the bottom right icon with the battery, there is always like a black exclamation mark there no matter what it seems. it only says plugged in... but doesn't say charging. My old xps with the barrel powerbank showed plugged in and charging. However, it does seem to charge the laptop battery. Am using the laptop at same time as well. However, the poker site i am testing on... doesn't use my 3050 graphics card and only using the intel iris xe graphics card. i normally play lot of tables at once so i use my laptop pretty aggressively, but here am testing just one table which means my cpu usage is like 5% only where normally its much more than this.. same with the ram . That non-us poker site that i normally play on does use the graphics card. But as long as it does slow charge right now, then it should work fine right? i can't test this while in the us.



My other concern is when i connect the powerbank to my laptop battery at around 70%... after about 50 minutes, it already is down to 1 light out of the 5 lights. Battery went up from 70% to around 97% as of right now as i type this. So does this sound about right? Seems like it last max an hour before it goes from 5 to 0 lights. But then again i gained 27% in battery increase so that is about right? Not only that... if i am using my laptop normally when i am playing and using lot of cpu and ram, possible this goes out in half hour or so?



With my old xps 9550 and that pw7015 barrel powerbank, i remember people said the moment you have a power outage even if your laptop battery is at 100%, always connect the powerbank first and use it up and then use your laptop battery last. People mentioned if you let your laptop battery go down to 10% and then use the powerbank, it would use up even more power. That is true right? i use to let laptop battery drain first before powerbank back at first.. So back with the old xps and barrel powerbank, i use the powerbank when laptop battery at 100%, then i remember it took between 1 hour 30 minute to 1 hour 45 minutes before it went out. So would that be similar to what i just did now? Surprise how fast it went to one light.

I just posted exactly what I saw on the back of my dell xps 15 9550 power adapter and the old PW7015L powerbank with it.

Can others here tell me if this confirms my new xps 9520 laptop with the new PW7018LC usb-c power charger is not powerful enough? Try3 tells me it isn't powerful enough. But the big question here is... is there risk to damaging the laptop or the laptop battery if I decide to continue to use it with the laptop? I hear mixed reviews on this online when people ask about using an underpowered laptop charger with a laptop. But does this change because it is a powerbank but also usb-c?

On Dell site, it shows the PW7018LC as compatible with the dell xps 9500 which was released 2 years ago and it uses usb-c as well. Now when i look at the power adapter specifications here.. this looks almost the same as the xps 15 9520. However the issue here is for the xps 9520, the Output current (continuous) of only 4.5A and Rated output voltage of 20 VDC means minimum 90W?


But with the dell xps 15 9500, since it has Output current (continuous) of either 4.5A, 3A, 3A, 3A and Rated output voltage of 20VDC, 15VDC, 9VDC and 5VDC, then that works? Because it would be something like 3 x 20 = 60 so minimum 60W with the xps 9500?


Is that correct?

Okay so want to update the thread.



With that dell powerbank i bought, when i connect it to my xps, seems like in about 50 minutes... the powerbank drains to zero. Now is that normal or not? Now if you are using the laptop while the powerbank is plugged in, seems a few more minutes less than that.



Reason is because this xps uses lot more watts than my old xps even if the nvidia graphic driver is not in use?



Now it seems that adapter is available on dell site again. Anyone here use it with their old barrel powerbank and if so, how much time you get with it before it goes to zero? With my old xps and the old powerbank, it would take an hour and a half or so before it goes to zero. But if i use that old barrel powerbank with that adapter with my newer xps... i got to assume it won't last that long and probably no more longer time than the new usb c powerbank i bought from dell? Anyone here done a test or use the old powerbank with adapter for a new xps?



Also... anyone bought that anker powerbank people talking about? Anyone used it with a newer xps and how long it last before the 5 bars go to zero? Seems like as huge as that powerbank is in terms of watts... it isn't that more than either of the dell usb c or the dell barrel powerbank? Also anyone here can confirm there is exact same amount of watts in either dell usb c or the old barrel powerbank?
