Solved Differences between Windows 11 Pro and Windows 11 Pro for Workstations?


Ultimate Performance Power Plan isn't available in Pro but it can be enabled through the command line run as administrator:

powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61

Hit enter when done. Next time you open Power Options in the Control Panel, it should be there.

It only makes sense if you have a high end Intel Xeon or AMD EPPYC workstation where the extra set features will be unlocked and enabled. Stay with Pro if you have an Intel i-5 or i-7 motherboard - you won't benefit from Pro for Workstations upgrade.

I realize that Windows 11 Pro for Workstations has many features I probably never use, but it is the choice if anyone wants everything. Much like the Windows 7 Ultimate version. Many features are hardly used by the average user, but most of us would consider any less versions a compromise.

I should have added if you hate the bloat of Windows Pro and the frozen state of LTSC, you should really switch to Education. The Pro Windows Microsoft should've shipped by default. Lean, mean and offers 36 months of support. Your Microsoft Store is there. Perfect sweet spot for most users. And the new licence you lets you keep your current configuration. Recommended.

The same thing is true of volume licensing. Both that and enterprise licensing are now GA. The drawback to LTSC is its frozen, you don't get feature updates and for a lot of people, you miss out on improvements to Windows. Education on the other hand, offers 36 months of support, you get the Microsoft Store and feature updates. The bloat on Pro people don't care for is stripped out. Its what Microsoft should have shipped as default but didn't.
