Does anyone know how to reliably disable automatic reboots for updates? I've found a few posts online mentioning a few GPO guys but they've been accompanied with people saying they don't work as well as information suggesting those people may have just been doing it wrong, so I'm not sure what to believe.

I love how the only one of these threads that actually addresses both the GPO that people said wasn't working and the information indicating those people may have been doing it wrong cuts off at "Thanks, this is promising. I'll see if it works!"
I mean I guess the fact they never came back to complain about it not working is promising...

There are 2 GPO related to stopping auto restart post updates. Neither work. It will eventually restart anyways.

Which policies do you refer to specifically, and what do you mean when you say they "don't work"?
If I enabled "Configure Automatic Updates" to setting 4, and configured it to install at 3 every Monday (for example), and also enabled the "No auto-restart with logged on users for scheduled updates" one, would that at least be enough to prevent it from going off while I'm online?

ETA: There's also this bit:
On Windows 8 and later, you can set updates to install during automatic maintenance instead of a specific schedule. Automatic maintenance will install updates when the computer is not in use and avoid doing so when the computer is running on battery power. If automatic maintenance is unable to install updates for 2 days, Windows Update will install updates right away. Users will then be notified about an upcoming restart, and that restart will only take place if there is no potential for accidental data loss.
