Disk cleanup -- Ms why Hide it

Hi folks
What was wrong with the old way in "Properties" ->Disk cleanup to get rid of windows.old file -- now you have to run a separate app (type on the windows icon Disk cleanup) to get the familiar panel. I'm on the latest W11 rs_preview release 22543

This is just bonkers -- what's the point of having "Disk properties" if you have to hunt all over the shop to get at various bits of disk management.

Because MS want us to use 'storage sense" instead. I look for disk cleanup to be deprecated before too long. I agree. It's asinine to make users jump through hoops when it's so easy for functions that are familiar to the user to be left alone. Just another thing they've taken away.

So typical Ms to complicate things
Next I suppose they will want us to call a Horse a "large 4 legged biological transportation device"

I'm sure the rest of you here don't have to do it, but since I updated to 11 back in Oct., I've spent more time googling "Windows 11 how to xxxx" than I have spent actually accomplishing anything.

You aren't the only one -- stuff that was just easily available in W7/W10 and even on WK19 and WK22 servers seems to be in obscure parts of W11 -- probably before long you'll need a Doctorate in Computer science just to be able to Boot W11. This stuff should be getting easier not more complex especially to handle easy tasks.

Mind you I believe Ms have now got a new high paying division called User and OS Obfuscation division.

For all the old favourites I just pin Windows Tools to the taskbar.

Same here. First thing I did though was to go through all of the settings to try to familiarize myself with all of the new ones, which keep getting added and changed as they phase out old control panel. I am wondering if eventually the old control panel settings will be completely gone in windows 11. I pinned control panel to taskbar by opening windows tools in the start>all apps>windows tools and finally right click the control panel and pin to start. Enough to make you scream.Lol

Same here. Seems what MS are trying to do is to rationalize where all the tools are. My task bar has start, settings, tools, this PC, MS store, Google from the left. Took a while to get used to where things are but I like the way things are now.

Microsoft, Google, and all others want you to use the SEARCH function (search = tracking). When people start using it, the location of the same would become irrelevant.

I'm on 11 Pro 21H2 22000.493 and I still have right click on a disk/properties and disk clean-up is on the General tab where it always was. What version does it disappear in? Is it only in the latest preview?

I just created a shortcut to cleanmgr.exe as I use it as part of my regular clean up. I agree why hide things and make it more difficult. I now have to walk my mobile 4 legged biological canine companion :ROFLMAO:

I searched for disk cleanup in start menu and then pinned it to start menu. Similar approach.

I do not like Storage Sense when it does a cleanup as you do not see progress in a popup menu. I like to set a cleanup going, and keep and eye on it when working on something else.

PS isn't it animalist, using term canine?

But, I just did this without the old menu, it's in the Settings now ...

I suppose they want to unify the interface so that there are no remnants of the old UI ... They are just rather slow at it

As I said earlier, you cannot visually monitor progress and use pc at same time. Also, for some reason, using Storage sense is much slower (tried on several devices).
