DISM command to check for corruption | Difference between Scanhealth and Checkhealth

Hi guys,

I was using this two commands to check for corruption on my system:

dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth
dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

And I noticed that both return the same message: No corruption found on components repository but scanhealth seems to take much longer while checkhealth is almost instantaneous. The detail is that before running this commands I had already run sfc /scanow don't know it this has any influence on the commands....

Does anyone know the difference between this 2 commands?

The "CheckHealth" option with the DISM determines any corruptions inside the local image of Windows. However, this option does not perform any sort of repair.

The "ScanHealth" option performs a more advanced scan to find out whether the image has any issues.

You only need to execute Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth the command when SFC cannot repair Windows system files.

So, CheckHealth reports any already detected corruption, while ScanHealth actively scans for corruption.

MS really should include such a tool someplace noticeable like Control Panel or Tools. It certainly can't hurt to be run periodically just like drive optimization.

I 100% agree. Possibly, because the process is accomplishable, Microsoft probably thinks they already have.
A quick access to these processes would be great, even an app if created properly. But Microsoft wouldn’t be happy unless they added their own twist as apposed to a simple interface with these options that could be selected then run as a batch, like their Disk Cleanup.

Not everyone who uses a computer are geeks like many of us who frequent these sorts of sites. DISM is such a useful tool it should be as easy as possible for the average person to use and not have to search online to find it. I remember stumbling on it years ago on the 7 forum.

I just use "powershell> dism" with the F2 key that will let me choose any dism commands I have executed from a menu. It is pretty cool feature. I hardly ever use batch files anymore because of features like this and better more reliable scripting.
Anybody use the F2 feature?

There's nothing stopping us from making one for community use. This one is crude and single-threaded, but I whipped it up pretty quickly as a demo.

Still seems strange MS has never included their own tool. I know people who don't have much computer technical knowledge other than turning it on and using the keyboard and maybe a printer. When it comes other issues on the technical side they rely on others with more experience. Would be nice to have something easy already built in that anyone helping could simply say go here and run this without getting into terminal commands and such. Just seems they would have included something after all these years. JMO.

How could I check if dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth really works? I tried renaming and even moving "hh.exe" and "regedit.exe" then run the command but apparently nothing happens they don't get substituted or something. Are there some files I could move for testing without causing a BSOD?

The Dism does not repair Windows system files, Dism repair files within component store WinSxS folder.
