I have 2 computers and I installed Windows 11 on both of them. I didn't like the taskbar or start menu so I did research and did the registry hacks to return the classic task bar, make it small, retain clock and other right side icons, restore search from File Explorer, and install Open Shell start menu. I am VERY pleased with the outcome. My installation thumb drive was built with the official Microsoft release and Rufus. My second computer did not have TPM, so I built a second TD with Rufus that allowed the installation on non supported computers.

Both computers have a settings type icon on the right side of the taskbar called Control Center. You can access your WIFI from that icon on both computers. Running shell:::{05d7b0f4-2121-4eff-bf6b-ed3f69b894d9} \SystemIcons I was able to turn on missing and wanted icons, one of which is WIFI. On one computer it (also) displays the same WIFI dialouge as if you went through the Control Center button. Both buttons work perfect.

My problem is that on the other computer, the WIFI dialogue works from the Control Center, but if you click just the WIFI icon, it pushes up a screen for a split second then it disappears.

Anyone have any ideas why the WIFI button works on one computer, but not the other?

Thanks!

It would appear your problem was caused by the hacks you've done.

My two computers run unadulterated Windows 11 and my WiFi settings work as designed.

Haha, well yea. :) I thought I setup both computers the same, but the stand alone WIFI icon works on one computer, but not the other. It's likely I did one setup in a different order and was hoping someone might know what I did wrong (on one) and help find a solution.

Apologies for stating the obvious. :eyeroll: A lot of members on the forum do these hacks, so perhaps you will get an answer.

Is it possible to do a Reset on the broken device and see if things work?

Even though you've already done the steps, if you have them written down, you can perform them again, in order, and you should be able to fix the issue.

Of course, if you ahve a backup from before you began to fiddle, it'd probably be easier to restore the backup and start again.
