When I do that, I only get a save as jpeg option - if I force .png, I get a jpeg file masquerading as a png. By inspecting the properties of the image, I see this:

whiuch tells me the source is in fact jpeg. Or am I doing something wrong?

I don't know. I tried copy/pasting it as I described and it comes back the same size and pixel count as when I uploaded it.

When I use Paint Shop Pro 7.04 I get same... 31MB / pixel count.
When I use MS Paint, I get larger... 40MB / same pixel count.

In both cases, I enlarge the image by single clicking on it twice, then I right click and choose copy.
I open an image editor and choose: Paste.
Then I save it as .png

I do NOT download it or right click copy the LINK.

I'm using Firefox 141.0.3 (latest stable version).

Ah, I see. I believe the image showing on this forum is a 5MB jpeg with compression artefacts, but when you do copy, and save as PNG, the file grows to 32 MB (as it does for me). I thought you had a PNG 'original' without artefacts - but now see that the nature of the picture does not really lend itself to efficient PNG compression - so I shall stop looking. Ta, Martin
