I think the trackpad on my LG Gram 17 is too big! my right palm often touches it while typing, sending the mouse pointer into hyperspace. Given that it's a 17" screen, the real-estate below the keyboard is huge, but it has finally made me realize there is such a thing as a too-big trackpad!

Your trackpad is definitely not functioning properly. You should be experiencing reliable palm rejection. Any touch larger than a fingertip should be totally rejected. Touching with your palm should do nothing. A properly functioning trackpad should instantly and reliably distinguish between 1 finger, 2 finger, 3 finger, and 4 finger touches. All gestures should be totally reliable.

You may have a faulty trackpad driver. Try finding your trackpad in Device Manager and then delete the driver. Rebooting will reload the driver. Don't allow reloading a local driver from your computer. If the problem is a faulty driver, this should fix it.

Now, having a touchscreen as well, that's when it gets really interesting.....

Touchscreens I do not like. I have no issues with touchpads except for gaming where they are usually useless. A mouse is much better there.

IMHO, touchscreens are OK on small devices and touchpads are OK if the battery in my mouse is dead.

Everything is OK as long as Microsoft doesn't try to force it down my throat again like usual. (They should consider theirself lucky that my mouse doesn't have a battery as I'm quite convinced that it would haunt them the moment after it died.)

If you have a touchscreen pc or tablet, install lovesummertrue app and it turns pc screen into giant trackpad.

I have a touchscreen on my XPS17, but although tempting to use I try not to because I end up spending loads of time cleaning the fingermarks from the screen

Also of course the XPS17 has a huge [Relative to most other laptops] trackpad that is highly responsive so I can use that. I normally use either a Logi mouse using the Flow when using with my desktop setup, but also use a trackball which I find a good compromise when limited for space when traveling

Not a fan of touch screens. Wireless external keyboard -- it's bigger and I can sit with it on my lap and have my nose much further away from the screen. Not a fan of trackballs either -- much easier using a mouse.

In any case I use a KVM device to switch these to different computers so I don't have several keyboards and mice on my workbench. I do though connect also a 2nd external keyboard with a different layout If i'm not working in English.

Logi flow makes the KVM concept redundant as it's built in the hardware and works seamlessly

my laptop sits to the right of my desktop, if the mouse pointer reaches the left edge of the laptop screen or the right edge of the desktop screen then the mouse switches to the other screen and the keyboard follows it - it's just like switching to the conventional second screen on the left of the Desktop

Thanks for the tip.

sounds like a good idea -- must try the logi flow mouse. However the KVM idea is still fine if you need to switch some peripherals such as external USB's to the alternate machines, but I don't do that very often.

The mouse thing should save a few usb cable connectors -- anything for less cabling I'm go for especially now decent wifi can reach speeds over the 1Gbps level with full duplex etc on the 5ghz channels. I've replaced all my individual LAN cables to router with short ones to a cheap switch, and a single cable to a 5-port modern nighthawk wifi extender.Internal NIC's on laptops (wireless) are still slower than LAN which is why I also run those to the switch rather than the internal wifi cards -- hopefully newer laptops will up the performance of the wifi nics.
