Gentlemen. We have an expert among us. (Though I never doubted it.)

Flashorn called it. Seems RAMdisk even makes lowly MP400 M.2 drives look good.

Sarcasm Galore this morning.
Nobody thought of looking at the size of the M:/drive. I mean, 6GB. I was sure someone would've caught on.

So, I thought I would be honest and bench the rest of the drives and yes, in Real World profiles.

One question if I may. I have a MS controller and a Solidigm controller.
As you can see, the Solidigm is almost as fast as the 990.
I have a driver from Samsung for the NVMe drives but, am reluctant to
install it . Take a look and tell me if it's safe to install.

Again, I am no expert, but in your case I was sincere my good man. You're the only one here who hinted at the idea of a RamDisk and although I was not certain what was going on when I made my first post, it didn't take me long to catch scent of the trail. TBH I thought I had it turned off and I don't know exactly what I did to mis-click and activate it but I must have done it a while ago and forgot about it. As I said, I had my ideas of what it might be but still wasn't sure until reboot.

So, move to the head of the class and I'll go look for my dunce cap. I'll certainly be paying closer attention to your posts in the future. As for your question, I'll leave that to user preference because Solidigm is geared to Intel and I really don't know what the deal with Solidigm and Hynix is. Ideally, there should be no driver conflict at all but once upon a time I certainly had one with some Samsung NVMe and Intel on ye olde work station that no amount of Magic could fix. Samsung actually told me to return their drive and I was given a full refund, which was mighty kind of them. I don't blame you for your reluctance, but it is very likely that Samsung has eliminated any chance of driver conflicts with NVMe at this stage in the game. Sometimes one does not know until they try and then if it goes sideways after it's too late.

Anyway, thank you for bringing RamDisk back to the forefront. I'm surprised more people aren't using it. I'm typing this in my rogue installation of Win 11 on the work station but when I get back to the AMD build I'll take a screen shot of what that lowly NVMe gives me without RamDisk.

Safe to install? Yes.

Will it help your drive? According to Samsung, no.

Additionally, that driver was last updated Jan 2020.

Well, when I looked at the numbers , the only other time I saw the same was with my first RAMdisk.
I really thought you were playing with us LOL! that's why I asked if it was AI.

I hope you won't be too disappointed with the results. My Win 10 notebook has a 970 EVO Plus and it is not as
fast as I thought it would be. This is why I was considering a SK Hynix for this one. The prices in Canada keep
fluttering and If you can't there at the right time well, you loose.

As for the driver, I won't be installing it. As John made it clear, it hasn't been updated since 2020.

I appreciate the detective work. I'll just bin the driver.
It would've been fun to see if it would bring better performance but, this is my main drive
and I don't want to have to start over again. I don't backup, I clone and have an exact copy
this drive but, I only replace the drive IF I really have to. I know, I know, do backups or image.
I try to take care of this drive and have customized it to my liking at this moment. Also, like
everything else, backups or images can be faulty.

Yes, indeed. Thank you John. Not sure if I'll be bothering to install the driver for the 980 Pro I just got or just run with the generic. If I use it it'll likely be after I give my X570 an overhaul and I'm still debating installing RAID 0 on the thing. :::sigh:::: decisions decisions

Just keep it as is. The only downside to a RAMdisk is the space.
With RAID 0 you'll have plenty of space to do whatever but, as
long as the RAID doesn't collapse on you. then what? Is it more
stable now that before?

To be perfectly serious I have never seen it run so stable. I don't know how to describe it but over time one develops a "feel" for these things as a user. It feels 'tight', not jittery, and smooth. Programs open nice and snappy and I haven't run into any issues (other than the paint thing that John helped me with and that was entirely unrelated).

I completely forgot that ASUS provided software for this and I recall installing it and playing around with it but eventually I just turned it off for whatever reason and forgot about it. I'm only running 16 GB of RamDisk so that leaves me with another 16 to spare. The whole reason I built the HERO is because I had never built myself a gaming rig before after building so many for other people. I suppose I was just curious about what the fuss was all about. I have since discovered that I'm a terrible gamer. lol Anyway, that's one off the bucket list.
