Dusty old HERO X570 speed test

One day I'll probably get around to installing my Samsung 980 Pro NVMe but I'm in no rush.
I'm saving it for a reward for paying off all my credit card bills first (which I will do because I am able - sorta).
For the time being I thought I would run a test on what I'm currently using, dust bunnies and all...

Admittedly, for what I'm running here, these specs aren't all that impressive. This is Corsair MP400 NVMe after all. Not even Gen4. I suppose I'm reluctant to change it because it's really good enough for my purposes but I have to say that this NVMe is likely the slowest NVMe I own.

I'm trying to figure out how you're getting almost 11 GB /s Write speeds on a gen 3.

What settings did you use?

Oh, I figured it out - real world test. Running now.

Not getting anywhere close. Those numbers still don't make sense compared to my 980 Pro, but I have 2 more to do, maybe the others will change my opinion.

Yeah, Something ain't right. At least with my system lol.

I think I'm missing a driver somewhere.

Identical drives, all getting full 4 lanes of PCIe gen 4 bus.

Checking Device Manager and I show the default Microsoft driver for the NVMe storage controller.

I don't understand this real world testing. According to the manufacturer of the MP400 it has " 3,400MB/s sequential read and 3,000MB/s sequential write speeds".

Had to shrink the picture to make it fit. Original screen shot is too big to upload. I'm certain I could get better speeds with the 980 Pro BUT... I would need two of them and I only have one.

I don't remember employing bifurcation but I am running "BIOS" in RAID mode so I think the system fabricated some sort of abomination all on its own. The system seems to run very snappy and tight. It feels very stable. I might be putting the 980 Pro in the Gen3 work station after all as I'm sure this is all the speed I need for a simple gaming rig.

I'm glad I found a way to make such low end NVMe pick up a bit but I hope it doesn't byte me in the hinder parts. :)

Definitely not and not a super big fan of AI generated anything. I'll keep everyone posted here on any developments or changes. TBH I'm not really sure what I did because disc management shows two individual sticks of MP400 so they can't possibly be in RAID 0.

Yes, unfortuantely so many people do not do that. But yet they keep using their credit cards to buy more and more things.

And it's so much easier to buy things with a credit card because you don't actually have to have the money right now, you got like 30 days to come up with the money and then something else comes up, and then before you know it, you are in over your head.

Unless you act wisely. Here is discipline: Put aside a balance of well-earned cash. Make a point of not spending it. Pay your bills in full each month. In the event that some emergency happens you can use that balance safeguard like a back up, but always, always pay your bills in full each month. A good business operates on a float. This is simple money management.

Stop taking screenshots of the entire screen. The native Snipping Tool (and almost every other screenshot tool) allows taking pics of the active application, too. That is how I did it.

Because it is showing different measurements than what Scannerman's original pic as well as my pics show.

But you cannot fabricate a RAID with a single drive. The speed reports there are varying to a degree that is not explainable to me, though I'm no expert in this by any means.

I always cut the impertinent stuff out of the picture to make it smaller after I take a screen shot but methinks because I use a 4K monitor sometimes the picture is too big anyway. I've had this issue sending pictures in emails via Win 11 as well. I never had a problem with shrinking screen shots in Windows 7 making a mess of my images. In fact, they were generally crisper and cleaner looking after ward. I'll look into this snipping tool then. Thanks. Here's my seventh run on Crystal Disk. A bit messy, but I wanted to verify that I was using real world settings in the profile menu:

I did notice that the speeds very with each run and this is normal to an extent, but sometimes they vary to a considerable extent. This is likely due to other programs running in the background. If these are real world speeds I'm not going to complain. Whatever the PC is doing here, I am pleased with it. I'm merely curious, as I'm sure you would be too. I wasn't nearly getting speeds like this before. I have some ideas about what changed but like you, I'm no expert so I'm putting my ideas aside for the time present. Perhaps one of the experts could tell us what is going on here. I'm open to trying other software if it is reputable and safe, but I don't want to pay to use it.

If you're manually cutting / cropping, crop to only the app. The entire screen is always going to be a large file, and unless you need to show the other stuff on your desktop, the app itself is the only thing you need.

But, even easier, if you don't want to use Snipping Tool, you can capture only the active app by using [ALT] + [PrintScreen] keys on your KB. Just select the app so it is the main app, then hit both on your keyboard simultaneously, and you have an instant screenshot of that app only.

Regarding the ideas - feel free to post - we have enough experts here on disk benchmarks and file transfers that they can validate or invalidate the ideas as being the source of the values you're getting.

Thanks for the tips. I don't recall why I gave up on the snipping tool years ago but I'll give that a go. Alt + PrtSc is my usual approach. I just do the editing after in paint but sometimes it isn't enough and I have to shrink the picture. That didn't bother me much either until Win 11 but I was having the same issue with Win 10 as well.

I'll leave my ideas aside for the present time as I'm curious to see what the experts have to say first. After running some of my own checks I'm convinced those numbers are real, and if I'm right a reboot should put things back to 'normal'. Nonetheless I want to try out a few more things before I reboot. If I can reproduce it I'll just keep running the OS in this configuration instead of messing with bifurcation for RAID 0. Well, at least for the time present.

I should try a real time file transfer and see what Windows says.
