This problem was reported over a year ago with an Insider build of Windows 10.
Yes, and a fix is supposedly going to be out soon.

Do you have any reference from microsoft or intel about the fix going out soon?

So I'm curious whether it will really be fixed this time.

The error was briefly gone with one of the driver versions.

And as @RFS wrote, the problem has existed for a long time.
Hopefully they will really fix it since I never noticed it as I do run a fully loaded system but dwm.exe for me is peaking at 36.5GB's after one day and never went higher after 7 days.

I have a Dell machine and I have tried every single driver available from Dell, they all suffer from the dwm.exe memory leak except the oldest one, which is incredibly buggy. I have also tried downloading some old drivers from the Intel website and I got the memory leak even with drivers older than the one Intel says is the first to have the dwm.exe bug, but now I am on 26.20.100.7985 and it seems to be all good.

Still, it's an old driver and I'd really like to install a version that officially supports Windows 11, and it has definitely been going on for too long

You should see Intel's response when I complained about black screens, they basically pointed me to 26.20.100.7985 which was released in September 2021 to fix a security issue and they claimed it's been tested by Dell to work with Windows 11 when everyone including Intel knows that the first driver with Windows 11 support is 30.0.100.9664 which is also WDDM 3.0.

Definitely not hard to believe.

Anyway, does anyone know if these old drivers are incompatible with W11 or if they'll work just fine?

I thought they worked fine except it's WDDM v2.7 as WDDM v3.0 supposedly supports WSLg which WDDM v2.7 doesn't.

Alright so the only thing not working should be WLSg. Sounds good enough, thanks :)

I'm sorry for the consecutive replies but I have a little update.

I have now switched to W11 and of course a newer graphics driver was automatically installed. I am now on version 27.20.100.9664 which has always given me the memory leak on W10, but for now it seems to be doing fine on 11. The Desktop Window Manager process takes around 90-100 MB of ram which is more than it did on 10 but for now it seems to be the normal behaviour (and I will try not to comment about Windows' ram usage :censored:). I hope this can be useful news

That's good because for me, it's taking 36.5GB of ram usage for dwm.exe with v30.0.101.1002 after 12 hours or so.

Yeah that's not so good. I don't know why now it's doing fine, it would be kinda ironic if I had fixed it in some way without noticing

Intel says that v30.0.101.1121 driver contains the fix:

My results at the time of this writing on a Dell XPS 15 9570 with 32GB RAM on Windows 11 Professional x64 22000.346:
v30.0.101.1069 and earlier - 36.5GB within hours after starting up
v30.0.101.1121 - 100.00MB after 1 hour and 101.32MB after 2 days 2 hours 19 minutes with a maximum peak at 907.34MB
